Ok, I've finally gone and bought my first Corvette today... a Sebring Silver 99 C5 A4 with G92  However, I'm in the UK and the car originates from Germany, which means the owner's manual has been printed entirely in German :( Basically, this is my first auto tranny car and I'd just like to know what I should do and what I shouldn't do. For instance, should I always change into 'N' when stationary at a stop sign or at traffic lights? Also, is it safe to rev the engine in 'N' or 'P' ?? I've also noticed quite a delay when I floor it before the tranny 'kicks down' (maybe 2 seconds) and also a lesser delay when changing manually (maybe 1 second) is this normal? Is there any way to improve it? I'd much prefer an instant kickdown in order to avoid planning ahead when overtaking, etc. What gives the quickest acceleration... changing up through the box manually or just leaving it in 'D'?? Lots of questions, I know, but I just wanna make sure my baby is ok and don't wanna hurt her unintentionally. Btw, I'll try to get pics posted tomorrow! :steering: Thanks in advance folks :)
Re: Some basic questions re. A4 'best practices' (i_york)
First of all, "Congats" on the new car! I think you've got great taste! :)
As for the tranny shifts, over here the usuall mod is too have a "shift kit" installed by a competent shop. The most popular maker of these shift kits is "TransGo". What you are describing is about the way the standard A4 operates. As a rule it is not necessary to shift into "n" or "p" when at a traffic light, certinly not for just a minute or less. Do not use the gas to hold the car still on a hill, apply the brake. Hope this helps. :auto:
