My 02 vette is an A4 with a 2:73 rear end. Can a ring and pinion gears be purchased and convert rather than purchase the whole rear end? I have been reading some CF members are changing gears only. Who can do it and what is the approx cost?
:iagree:
For the price of the entire assembly your better off getting the entire rear end, assuming its the 3.42 gear. The 3.73 is at least double the price of the 3.42's,but your 2.73's are not able to accept the 3.42 or 3.73 ring & pinion gear, changing the gears is definitly worth it :) Good luck
The 2.73 rear carrier is the same for all of them. The differential has to be replaced to accomodate the new ring and pinion however. If you have a 3.15 or higher differential then you could go to a higher gear ratio without replacing the differential. The 2.73 uses a very unique differential . A great rear for economy highway driving though. You would have to shop around and see what a new diff. costs for performance setups (3.15 higher).
