I want to put back my cut H-pipe... is there an easy way to do this without welding? Ecklers has these band strap type clamps (see link below) that will mate the cut pipes... Anyone know of another way?
I am curious to know...why are you putting your H-pipe back on??
Just for pure experimentation... I've never tried my catback exhaust system with the stock H-pipe, since I put them in at the same time... Also, I've read some posts saying that a X-Pipe doesn't offer that much of a performance gain on A4's... Lastly, I'm curious to know if the stock H-Pipe will give my GHL's a deeper rumble...
Re: How do you put back a cut H-Pipe? (99C5Richie)
I have an MN6 with Corsa Indy's, Corsa X-pipe and SLP headers. The X-pipe did nothing - not even reduce the popping, etc. The headers lowered the tone of my exhaust a lot and it really sounds great now.
The 3/4" diameter stock H crossover will do absolutely nothing for your car. If you want a deeper exhaust tone, install a set of long tube headers. Save yourself the $275 for an X-pipe (not worth the $$) and dump that limp di_k 3/4" H pipe that came on your car - it's worthless.
Lastly, the A4's do not have near the level of exhaust popping, etc that the MN6's have due to computer controlled shifts, etc. Since you have the GHL's on the car, a set of headers would be perfect for deeper tone. Plus you would actually gain a few RWHP - exhaust alone will not add anything.
Lastly, about the only way you are going to be able to reinstall that limp di_k crossover tube is to have it welded back in place. Clamping will only work if you can flare the ends to allow a slip-fit. Otherwise, lots of exhaust leaks and gasping noise (not you, the car).
