Lightly modded 97 LS1 Vs 01 LS6
The 01 Z06 LS6 is rated at 385 HP at the flywheel.
In the past I pretty well held my own against the 01. Basically who ever got out of the hole first would win. I did notice when behind at top end, we were pulling dead even.
All and all given the Z06 has the M12 trans Vs. my MN6, I think my dyno numbers and calculated flywheel HP are pretty close to being right, assuming the LS6 is running up to stock specs.
Tonight we ran 4 or 5 times at the track and in every run the LS6 flat out pulled me. No contest. In one run half way through first it was like the LS6 lit an afterburner.
The only difference we could identify was the air temp. Possiably air pressure but, that's an unknown.
Both cars run fairly consistant low 13's at our altitude. Tonight I couldn't get under 13.4. His best was a 13.0xx which I believe is a new personal best for him on this track but, more typically he was running 13.2 - 13.3 or 4+.
The question is - "Which do you think is the most likely cause", my LS1 is affected more by changes in temp then the LS6 or, something has caused the LS1 to switch over to the bad gas table?
I'm guessing I've caused it to switch to the bad gas table. I have a bad habit of lugging the motor pulling up the drive way and into the garage.
The good news, he ran a 01?02 Mustang cobra and beat it. I ran the same mustang on the mustang's next run and beat it by .085 with a poor 13.497. :smash: :smash: :smash:
I was darn lucky at that, he was on DR's or ET Streets and jumped almost 2 full cars out of the hole. I was on street tires.
All my friends with Z06s are running anywhere between 12.5 - 11.8 depending on what type of tires they are running.
The gearing of the M12 tranny is a big part of the equation.
Heads/Cam or Cam and 3:90 gears will go a long way towards your goal.

vetterdstr
Given you guys are fairly equal drivers..and your horspower figures are very close...if you put some 4:10's in your car you will pull ahead of him....even if he is 150lbs lighter.
Put some 4:10's in that car..it will be one of the best mods you ever make on a N/A 346 cid.
