I just got my Blackwing last night and can't wait to put on my first mod! I'm going to take my MAF screen out too. Anything I should watch out for? I've read the MAF electronics are easy to accidently screw up.
This is a great forum. Thanks for all your help. :hurray:
Re: First mod. Blackwing in.......MAF screen out. (2000TicketMachine)
Removing your screen will make your car run lean. If you decide to take the screen out, be carefull not to damage or alter the wires the meter the airflow.
Re: First mod. Blackwing in.......MAF screen out. (2000TicketMachine)
Just make sure not to accidently hit the wirse inside the MAF.... it is really easy, I have noticed NO adverse effects since removing mine. CONGRATS on a GREAT mod! The Blackwing changes the whole sound of the car :yesnod:

Thanks guys. I guess I'll do the surgery in a well lit room. I also just got a Corsa Daytona exhaust from a forum member and can't wait to add that to the intake. :D Mod fever!

??? I was thinking when I install an LT system my Vette would run rich. If removing the screen will lean it out a little, I just might do that also..
Re: First mod. Blackwing in.......MAF screen out. (2000TicketMachine)
Taking out the MAF screen will not give any significant increase in power. I would never take mine out for such a minute increase versus the trouble in could cause down the road if a foreign object were to get through the air filter. Do yourself a favor and leave it in .....Just MY opinion !

Re: First mod. Blackwing in.......MAF screen out. (Corvette Poor)
The function of the screen was to straighten airflow in the GM truck engine intake system the TB was originally designed for, not add a level of protection against dirt or particles (the screen is FAR to coarse for that). In fact gm removed the screen from the same TB on 2002 and newer Z06's to allow increased flow. Every horsepower counts.

Hey Rob, I see you're from MD. You been to Tony's Corvette yet? I hear it's THE place around DC. Let me know if you have or if you know of other good shops. I just got my vette about a month ago, so I'm trying to find good places locally. Much obliged.

There is NO problem with removing the MAF screen (don't harm the wires). Also, I have dyno runs before and after. . .removing the screen will NOT make your car run lean! Actually, if anything your CPU will overcompensate and you will run RICH.
That is my experience. Based on my dyno runs, I needed to get a tune to get the car running where I wanted. I just decided to get blown instead!
