Agostino Racing or MTI
Hey all, I'm looking at a heads/cam swap within the next six months. Just trying to get my ducks in a row early. I'm pretty much deadlocked between MTI and Agostino Racing. Does anyone have any opinions or experience with either? Any info would help me out. Thanks fellas
IMO I would go with ARE. MattG will take care of you. ARE, imo, has better support. MattG is active on the boards and can help you quicker with any questions that may arise.
I have dealt with both.
I will also bet that a bunch of others will back up MattG's service rep. :D

Although they are both great tuners, I chose MTI for my 422. They did an excellent job and are always willing to take my calls and answer any questions, no matter how minor.
I live in FL and ARE is building my 436ci, Canada is a long way from everyone here but they have been around forever, send cash or check the exchange rate in Canada will cost you your azzz on a credit card. If I were in Houston I would probably go with MTI as they would be nearby but they are both a long way from me.

MattG does help out quite a bit.
They are BOTH GREAT. You obviously have to choose one. Either way, you can't go wrong.
I, personally, went with A.R.E. Here is my Heads/Cam experience with A.R.E.:
PART 1: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=438265
PART 2: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=451165
PART 3: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=452086 <--- the best part !!
hope this helps. Good luck. Lets us know how u make out.

I've done a H/C car with ARE and then a 436. Both were very well done technically; since Wade's taken over ARE customer service is also first rate.
Haven't done business with MTI, but their reputation stands for itself.
I HAVE done business with LGM: Lou and his guys were great to deal with, and were very helpful in all sorts of ways.
I'd go with ARE or LGM, based of course on my personal experience. One of the points to consider when building a project far from the builder is how to handle the inevitable glitches that occur (especially tuning). Both Wade and Lou are very accessable and helpful.
Good luck with your project.

I've got nothing but the highest of compliments for MTI and the work they've done on my car over the last 1.5 years. I'd go with whoever is closest personally...
Good luck with your mods!

A.R.E., M.T.I., Cartek, L.P.E., L.G.M., Xtreme, Norris, Morgan, they all make great products, and you won't be disapointed with any of them. If you are doing you're own install, and just ordering parts, they are all great to deal with. If you are going to use one for install and tuning also, I would go with the one that is geographically closest to you, as there isn't a bad one among them. Good luck with your project.

Looks like I'm not going to go wrong with either way I go then. Good to know. I will be doing the install myself. Its kind of half the fun knowing that you did it yourself. Plus I'm a helicopter mechanic so I enjoy it. You have all been helpful and I will keep you informed on my decision and results. I appriciate all the help. Still undecided as of yet, but I'm sure that I will be able to make a decision. Thanks again to all
I plan on doing the work myself. I had to replace the head gaskets on my 96 formula. Kind of a pain in the a** on an LT-1. The LS-1 looks a bit more mod friendly. A new gasket kit is needed, and I've always been told to replace the head bolts. This is for the heads only, would be my first cam swap, when I do it. All I really had to use was a lot of simple tools and a torque wrench for the heads. Tourque on the head bolts is critical, but I did it all at home. If you plan on doing it yourself, expect a bit of down time. Took me about 4 days but then again I did most of it alone, had a buddy help for just a bit, but he didn't really have any experience at all. To me part of the fun is knowing that you did it yourself, a bit of pride goes into not. I know that several of the great tuning companies listed in this post do a great job, but I am also a mechanic (on helicopters, Air Force, headin' to the mideast in a month or so) and I take a lot of pride in modding my cars myself. Let me know how everything turns out if you do plan on doing it yourself.
