After installing my first mod (blackwing and thank you for your advice); I am on the market for the loudest cat back...Borla XR-1. Now, I've been doing a lot of researching, for the best price of a new system.
Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a CoMpEtIvE priced XR-1?? Please, help. :seeya
If you want the absolute LOUDEST, you can save yourself several hundred dollars and go with the SLP loudmouth. It is without a doubt the LOUDEST system on the market.

Re: Borla XR-1
Had a little get together with some buddies Saturday. We had the following represented all in one place:
Stock 01 Z06 Titanium
Borla XR-1
Borla Stingers
SLP Loudmouth
The Loudmouth is by far the loudest and baddest sounding of them all. The two Borla systems are actually about the same in sound as each other with maybe just a little tone difference, and are definitely a step down in volume from the Loudmouth. The Z06 Titanium is by far the quietest of them all, although it does sound decent when you really get on it. I definitely loved the sound of the Loudmouth, and if I had a regular C5 I'd put one on in a heartbeat. Since I've got the Z, I think I'm going to try the double x-pipe setup that removes the cats and see how that sounds with the stock Titanium.
Loudmouths? How much are they? Does it sound throaty?? Does anyone have a web link, so that I can compare the Loudmouth and XR-1??
What are your opinions on these two?? Please, advice.
:chevy :chevy :chevy
You can get the Loudmouth new for about $450. I've seen them go here for $350 to $400 used. They're not the best quality, but they have nice large 4 1/2" oval tips. Some guys have trouble getting the tips to line up. As far as quality, the Borla is a better system. But the Loudmouth's sound NASTY as hell! Deep throaty rumble at idle and they absolutely scream at wide open throttle. They actualy pretty obnoxious.

and if you want the best sounding AND looking ;), stick with the XR1s ;) :D
as for price...I HIGHLY doubt the loudmouth setup is "several hundred less" than the borla

Tbryne Motorsports was selling them new for $450 a month or two ago. There's a used one in the parts section for $325.

Stellar112, I've been waiting awhile to see someone running 12's with the 2.73's. From your sig...Borla XR-1, 2:73's (hate em'). My goal when all mods are done is 12's while retaining the factory warranty.
When we talk about "resonance" is there a specific rpm range? Can I get the XR-1 and be able to have resonance at around 1500-2000 rpm?
I dont now which one to purchase :boxing. Does anyone have a sound clip of both XR-1 and Loudmouths??
1500-2500 is where I get it. it is much more prevalent when cold outside - almost to the point of being annoying. today when it's 85 - almost none. :seeya
Don't know about XR1s. But I can tell you about straight pipes. They are far cheaper than mufflers. A shop can make a nice set with 4 inch chrome extensions. However, they are loud. Driving around town or on level highways there isn't much resonance. However, at 65 mph in cruise when you start to go up a hill in 6th gear the resonance will drown out the radio. Under those type loads resonance is pretty high from 1500 to around 2300 rpm. I have gone to SuperTrapps now and there is still quite a bit of resonance but I can at least stand to drive the car for 4 hours straight.
