I have been reading about this mod. Any opinons on it? I just bought a LS6 intake and was wondering if it would be a good time to go ahead and replace the rockers while I was taking stuff apart? I have read that they can increase hp up 20 but I know how claims like that are sometimes. Your input (as always) is appreciated.
:yesnod:
I have them and I was more interested in making the valvetrain stronger and the pushrods were the ticket for me. The difference in power is obvious but it is more like 12hp. Definitely do the springs and retainers while you are in there so there is no problem with the new lift. You will be in the .535 area on the new lift and the stock springs aren't enough....you will get valve float above 5600 or so. The power band likely moves higher too so getting the springs done will allow you to move your rev limiter up. I did an underdrive pulley kit just after and it was as awesome a mod as far as power but at all rpm's not just high up like the rockers seem to give. About 10hp but everywhere.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you do decide to do cam hunting in the future, cam specs are altered by the rockers (not just peak lift) and you will have to do your homework in finding compatable cams for the new 1.8 ratio.
Good luck. MTI helped me with this and that is how I selected my new cam.
If you're commited to running out the engine life within the limits of bolt-ons, then this is a good mod along with springs. One extremely reputable tuner said that higher ratio rockers on stock cams work really well when combined with bowl porting, mild boost forced induction, headers and a cat-back with the highest combo of performance, drivability, and affordability.
