After sitting all winter, I replaced the battery then the alternator- it still won't start i can jump it but, when i shut it down the battery is completely drained- the dashboard reads charging system fault, is there some trick to resetting something after you change the alternator???
Hey thanks for replying,
nice to be a part of the forum!
I just had the alternator tested today- A.O.K. , the battery though was shot, but good ole GM gave me a new one. It runs fine but I still get the "Charging system fault" on the dash display.
I too received repeated "Charge System Fault" messages on the DIC of my 1999 C5 coupe (built 8/98) when I started the car. I made several trips to the dealer, but the mechanic was stumped and called Chevrolet Technical Assistance. He was told to check several ground locations on and near the starter (under the battery tray).
The mechanic found two ground stud locations that had loose nuts on them, with corrosion present. He cleaned the studs and tightened the nuts, which eliminated the messages. He stated that Technical Assistance immediately knew what the problem was when he called and he speculated that it was an assembly problem that was common to 1999's.
The corrosion was not caused by the Delco battery leaking acid (although acid leaked from the original battery later and caused considerable damage).
You may want to check the ground locations and clean the studs and ground fasteners. Good luck.
