Hi,
To run the '02 LS6 cam you need to change the valve springs as a minimum. The stock LS1 springs do not have enough seat pressure or rate and I think they will coil bind before 0.550" lift. The cheapest way to go is the Chevy '02 LS6 springs but the Manley springs give you more margin for your heavier valves. I would not run the rev limiter at 6600 with the '02 springs and LS1 valves although you hear about people doing it all the time. I have run the Manley springs to 6800 with the heavy valves.

I haven’t had to change the pushrod length due to the smaller base circle. I cut the heads 0.020” when I did my ’99 which compensated for the base circle. The change in pushrod length needed is something like 0.017” so a 0.050” shorter pushrod is too much. I would try the stockers and if the valve train is real noisy you could order a set of pushrods at +0.020 (7.420”).

The LS1 valve retainers, valve keys and pushrods are the same part number as the LS6. You can get titanium retainers from Comp Cams that work with any stock spring. Manley also makes Ti retainers for their spring.

When I installed the '02 cam in my '99 FRC, the fuel trims were OK but the WOT air-fuel ratio was rich. This was worth ~15 RWHP increase when adjusted with LS1_Edit. I did not have to touch the idle in any way. It dynoed at 345 RWHP SAE on a 248 DynoJet with the stock exhaust and a tie wrapped K&N. The ’02 cam has a noticeable increase in torque/power above 3500 rpm. The idle quality is very close to the stock LS1 cam.

Good luck,
Steve
