I've had my corvette for a while now, but I've never taken it down the strip. I think I'll be going sometime soon and wanted to know if it's better to have the Active Handling on or off? It would seem to me that it would be better to have it on to keep the traction out of the hole, but many I have talked to say no. So which is it? And please explain why. I'll be on street tires if that makes a difference. Thanks.
Re: Drag Racing Question: Traction Control? (ColoradoSilver)
Some folks feel better with active handling (competitve mode) on. It is okay to use it if you wish. Traction control however is not needed.
I found that active handling slowed me down a little bit so I don't run with it on but then I also run with drag radials and ET streets so I stick a little better.
Try your first run or two with it on and then without it and you can decide.
Most of all, have fun and be careful, it is additive.
Re: Drag Racing Question: Traction Control? (ColoradoSilver)
I have had my best results with both active handling and traction control off i.e. one quick push on the active handling button. However it took me 4 visits to the strip to be confident enough that I could stand on the loud pedal and not worry about losing control.
For the first three visits I set the car into competitive driving mode which was entertaining enough for me. I left traction control on for one run just to see what the difference was. The answer was that although it made my 60' time improve a little I was a whole second slower over the quarter so I'm never going bother with that again !
If you're going to be using the Goodyear EMTs don't go to the effort of lowering the rear tyre pressure, I got my best results with 34 psi cold !
