I installed Borla Stingers this weekend and am very happy with the sound. However the alignment has proven to be very difficult. Looking at the pipes, the weld points of the hangers are not equal on both sides. I've mostly been able to compensate for this, but cannot get it 100% perfect. Any alignment advice from a veteran? Or should they go back for replacement?
Trying to bend the hangers is not the best way to adjust your tips. What you have to do is loosten the bolts at the cat back, adjust the tips and re-tighten the bolts. You may have to do that a couple of times to get it just perfect but when you do it will stay that way.
I held the stinger tips while a friend tightened the bolts on the pipes. I actually used my fingers as spacers while the bolts were tightened. I was worried about allignment issues, but this seemed to work well for me. Good Luck
Mike, it helped to have everything loose, then I held one exhaust tip in each hand and used my fingers for spacing against the bumper cover. Line em up the way you like and have a friend tighten the bolts. I don't recommend adjusting the hangers.
I have had my dual tips for over a month now, and I tweaked on em today a bit. I think I have it right now. It just takes some time, but I dont mind spending a bit of time under there anyhow. :)
My left pipe was definaltly hanging lower than the right. Actually, what I did was loosen the clamp at the rear joint, and while holding the end of the pipe up I tightened the clamp back up. Looks tight now.
I had this problem with a Borla 4 tip system (not Stingers) and they were real jerks about it. The passenger side was misjigged; they admitted it was a safety problem; and they would do nothing about it. I had to sue them. and they finally paid me what they owed me, but it wasn't easy. IMHO, almost any system is better than Borla. I have GHLs now and am very happy.
My left pipe was definaltly hanging lower than the right. Sounds like a personal problem to me :U
