Default What does GM consider excessive oil consumption?

Just curious because I burned a quart or so on my trip to Florida which was about 1200 miles. Cruising about 85-90 on the highway in 6th. What really got me thinking was the huge amount of black crap on the rear fascia when I got there. IS that related?

Any thoughts?
Joe

I was told 1/2 quart per 500 miles. Dealer checked mine every 500 miles. Verified 3 times and then reringed it. Mine had oil blown all over the a** end too. I told the dealer we didn't need a consumption test - just rub your finger along the a**end of my car!!! He didn't think I was very funny...I wasn't trying to be - I was serious!! Take yours in for a test and get your new rings. Good Luck!!

Theoretically (sp?) you don't need to change you oil then. 6.5 quarts 6000 miles, just change the filter, there is always fresh oil in there. :jester :nopity

GM says 1 quart per 2000 miles is acceptable. Anymore is excessive usage. Mine used 1 quart per 1200 miles and I had mine re-ringed without an oil consumption test. No more usage! :auto:

I got lucky. I burn 1 quart every 7,000 miles.
