 I can not believe it. My Passenger door window stopped working. Did the bang the door thing, but it still does not work. Why is it that we put up so such poopie when it comes to the vette :U . If we were driving anything else we woudl have never put up with it.
Chevy has to wake up and smell the coffee, :mad When you build a $50K + car people actually expect a $50K + car. and no "...But, it is the great American Sports Car..." aint going to cut it. Built it right, PERIOD.
Now that over, what can I do and how much is it going to subtract from my MOD fund, as it a 99 and out of warranty. :cry
IMHO....ext. warranty's are a waste of money. Had one on my truck and never used it......$1000 down the drain. Save the money, invest it and if something happens you're covered.
As for the problem.....I agree......Chevy needs to step up and fix these all these annoying problems on their flagship. :cuss
I disagree - every one of my extended warrantys have paid off big time in the end.. they have lost thier butts on my cars..
All through the eye of the beholder.. :D
RULE #1 - Always buy an extended warranty.

Sounds like the window sensor went out or the drive motor or switch. With all the electrical stuff this car has, it would have been good to get the extended warranty. Some dealerships have a deal called "if you use it you loose it" IOW, if you dont use your extended warranty, they will refund the entire amount back to you... If you use it, then (more than likely) you loose the money. So the best thing to do is just before your warranty is up... drain the oil out of the engine and run it untill it blows, then put the oil back in and let them buy you a new one and install it for you. ;) We have our ways of getting our money back and then some... (of course we "the Corvette Forum" would never approve of behavior like that) :nono:
Now that we've hijacked this thread to a discussion of extended warranties, I'll add my two cents--
I've been in the insurance business for a long time and have worked for companies writing extended warranty products. Typically, these have a loss ratio in the 30s, meaning for every dollar paid for a warranty, the carrier pays out 30-40 cents. Due to the overhead expenses of selling and administering these, if a carrier were to hit a loss ratio of 70, they'd start losing money. Therefore, on average, these aren't really good investments. However, like any other insurance policy, you have to decide what your personal risk threshold is--if a $2000 engine repair would be a big issue for you, then maybe the $800 warranty makes sense. Given the Corvette's rather poor reputation for long-term reliability, as well as the cost of some of the repairs, I can't blame people for buying extended warranties on these cars, even though the warranties aren't really the best investments.
Thanks for all the info on extended warrantee's. I wonder is it too late to buy one ? Not for this problem but for posible future problems. The car is a 99 with 23K miles. I bought it last July, can I still buy an aftermarket policy?
Also how much is it going to cost me to fix the dam window?

Re: WTF !!! (newbie)
Sorry the motor on your window went out, but you don't mention if anything else has gone bad. You're right, the window motor should not go out so soon. Don't give up because of this. Hopefully this is just an isolated incident and you will have many more trouble free miles.
Extended warranties on Chevys :yesnod:
Extended warranties on Fords :nono:
Sorry but Chevy should know all dailys are Fords all weekends Chevy. If I break down on a weekend, easier to deal with.
AAA loves the Fords, hates the Chevys. At least mine.
But I love my Poopie vette
OK to get this subject back on the real issue the window motor. The same thing happened to my 98 about a month or two ago, an yes mine two is out of warrantee which necessitated doing it my self. I searched the net and got some prices and also called a couple of local dealers. I was able to get the part here in town for only $20 more than the internet mail order, and I got it the same day and installed it the same day. It was just a little over $200 for the motor and whole channel assembly (you have to replace the whole thing). I searched on the forum on how to install the motor and did it my self. Took about 1/2 hour for me to do... Very easy. Good Luck
If it makes you feel any better, three window regulators have gone out on my wife's 2000 Grand Cherokee. One under warranty, one I did myself (only like $75 and was the whole assembly like the 'vette) and another one just went out the other day but I don't plan on replacing it since it's a rear window.
I think stuff like this is bound to happen on almost any car and we're not paying $40k for eavy duty window regulators. It's all the other stuff.
Still sucks when it happens though. :steering:
PS: Just re-read the thread and saw you only have 23k on the car. That would probably torque me off too.
