Any one know of an aftermarket or ?? to beef up the clutch pack? Is there a locker for a C5? What does everyone do to keep them together?
Thanks, :steering:
Hey copy cat!!!!!! I break mine you break yours. If you find something better than what we have give me the info. :D
Bob
damn, that's right Bob...and with Rodney, that makes 3 C5s this weekend, excluding Redgar :(
so...what exactly is the posi unit in comparison to the tranny, gears, converter, etc....is it an actual separate component or part of the gears, etc...something that could be beefed up with I get my stuff installed :)

Seperate part, actually a clutch pack in the differential. Connects both wheels so they each have equal power. Cluthes slip and power only goes to one wheel. Don't know if anything special is available yet. Should know in a day or so if anyone makes anything that's better.
so it's in or part of the differential then, hmmmm....keep us updated, and have you talked to Tracy's tranny man, just another resource :)
Yes it's actually a part of the rear but, the clutches can be replaced as they do wear when abused (drag racing). For the record both Marc's car and mine were clutch pack failures probrably caused by wear (or John Force burnouts). Rodney had some type of failure entirely unrelated to our problem. Until his car is taken apart we won't know what caused it. By the way my rear was never apart. It was removed from a brand new car and put right into mine.
Are any of these rears "REBUILT" with 3:73, 3:90 or 4.10's??
I posted this a while back. I was curious to know the condition of the posi that was in the case before they rebuilt it. For all we know they could have had 50-100K miles...
In my case, the Diff came out of an '02, very low miles......leaking side cover, warranty replacement...........it was a 3.42 that I used for my 3.73's.

Marc's unit was a factory 3.42 that had 3.73 gears installed. Mine was a factory 3.42 that was removed from a new car and installed in my car. Never opened. Mine currently has about 20,000 miles of which I put on. Lots of dyno, street and race track. Thankfully the weak link is a fairly inexpensive failure. Just a coincedence, we play now we pay.
Sorry to hear that your having trouble Marc..But this is whiy I purchased 3.73's direct from Getrag..Nothing like a new component with a warranty!
Hope you get it sorted out real soon..I'm looking to get to the track in about 2 weeks and I could use a partner for the Moroso dial in runs... :yesnod:
Vince,
Unfortunatly, with the power we are putting to the rear, an OEM dosen't seem to be able to handle it.....we think the clutch packs need to be shimmed tighter. :steering:
