Help: I have a 2002 A4 Coupe that I don't drive much due to my called to active duty from reserve status. I usually start the car every 7 - 10 days and let the engine run 30 mins to keep the battery charged. I have needed to jump start the battery several times and I got a new factory GM battery for free.
I have heard of a battery trickler (sp?) that you connect to your battery to give a constant 2 volts so you don't have a dead battery.
Does anyone know the proper way to use this equipement, and where to buy, cost, etc.
Hey Joe, buy a Deltran 'Battery tender' at any auto parts store; it's the best, and only charges at 1.25 amps. It's designed to leave it connected all the time, and will maintain your battery fully charged.
And yes, you can lock your hood; just route the cables towards the windshield, where the big rubber gasket can easily swallow the flat cable.
Joe, do you activate the security system when you leave the car? If so, this is probably draining the battery.
A battery tender would probably be a good thing for you. However, you would also want to remove the bulb from the underhood lamp, so as not to drain the battery from it being on while the hood is open.

If you leave the hood open, the underhood light automatically turns off after 15 minutes.
Also, you can shut the hood, or lower it to turn the light off right away.
Walmart sells trickle charger's for $19.99 and trickle/quick chargers for $39.99. I have the latter kind and won't depart with it.... they are life savers and handy for times when you need to work on electrical stuff on the C5.
