A cam card will tell you the valve timing as well as lift and duration on a particular cam. It will tell you if the cam is advanced, retarded or ground straight up.

It tells you the spec of a cam. Just like 295/35 18 tells what size a tire is. 222/228 575/580 114lsa tell a cam's dimensions.
Al how do you like your 221 cam? This is Gary. I now have a SS3600 stall TC similar to yours. My buddy has a Cam he got out of another car (with 1K miles on the Cam) and it is a Comp Cam 222/222 .56X/.56X 114 LSA. Which seems to be a decent Cam with good power across a wide RPM Range. He might give it to me at a decent price.
I went with a mild cam due to the strict Cali emission standards. I picked up approx. 43hp in conjuction with other mods. The idle is great with proper tuning. Your friends cam is almost identical, go for it.

The Bandit...............
Bandit, stab the cam in. The cam you are describing sounds very much like the MTI B1. The B1 was a standard on this forum from 2001-2002 and still continues to be a nice broad range cam like you are describing. The T1 may have had more acclaim due to its tighter 112 lobes, but I think the 222/222 will work great with your A4 car.
