How does one know what program is in the car. Can this be determined by any diagnostic tool or is this privy to GM only. Can any shop reprogram to latest GM program or is this also privleged info. limited to chevy dealerships?
Calibrations are read by inserting the VIN# into the GM website...Program updates are determined by retreiving the calibration from the PCM with a Tech2,downloading that calibration from the TECH2 to a PC connected to the GM data base...If there is an update, that calibration is downloaded to the TECH2 from the PC,then downloaded to the car with the TECH2...Got all that???
If you e-mail me your VIN#,I can tell you if there is an update calibration :yesnod: which there is for just about every GM vehicle on the road...
I beleive a bill was passed recently to release these calibration updates, but if one does not have the equipment they are SOL :yesnod:
If a shop has ls1 edit near you..they can flash a stock program to your computer. Or you can go to any local dealer and they can flash your pcm.
Tp actually view the data you will need a Tech 2 (as mentioned), ls1 edit, or the new Genisys (by OTC tools which is half the price of the Tech 2 and can do the same, if not more then it. Plus it is in full color!)
I heard that it runs 80-100.00 bucks.. It seems that GM has the exclusive on this. I would sure like to know beforehand that a new update is available before shelling out 100 bucks to find out? What happens if there is no update.. Thanks for 100.00..have a good day!!

LS1-Edit writes data segments only, not code segments. If you use LS1-Edit to write data segments from a different cal id to your PCM you are begging to be hosed. :nono: This trick will usually result in your PCM becoming a mighty fine paperweight.
My car goes in to check out a few things next week. This is 5days before the warranty is over. Should I have them check for and install any updates? Or am I better off with not fix'n what ain't broke?
edit: Ok, I just checked the web page and found the only update is "new calibration to reduce spark knock and false setting of dtc p0175".
Well, about a year ago my car started feeling like it doesn't want to pull to redline. I ran Autotap and found a lot of knock retard.
Anyone know if the update changes knock sensitivity to reduce the amount of retard, or did they increase the sensitivity and increase knock retard.
I can't remember if the knock retard I'm seeing coensides with the cars trip to the dealership last year. (maybe they flashed it and didn't tell me).
