LT Headers installed... Now car hesitates/stumbles: HELP!
I got the car back Thursday and drove it a bit that night. Drove it around town all day on Friday w/no problems at all. Just loving it. Drove it on about a 2 hour (150+/- miles) at about 67mph the whole way. I did get in two 90-100 mph blasts passing some slower traffic on the 2 lane part.
I get to my destination and park it. Still no problems. Little later I take a friend for a ride. Do a 70mph blast (got pulled over w/warning :D ). After that I took off and was just cruising around campus (MSU in Starkville) and noticed it starting to studder and stumble.
Well, I drove it back home tonight and had cruise set at about 63 and cruise was fine, but any kind of acceleration the motor would shake a bit.
Once I got back into town I bought some octane boost and filled up with premium (which always goes in). Also, while in town I got to test the other gears a bit. Motor does the same thing in all gears. Would even backfire a little accelerating. I only drove about 5 miles from the fill up back to the apt.
Could this be an exhaust leak? Loose O2 sensor? What?
PLEASE HELP!!! I am supposed to go the drag strip for the first time tomorrow to hand my friend in his supercharged (10 psi) GT his **** (he ran Wed. night and best e.t. was 12.92  - but now he has nitto's).
Re: LT Headers installed... Now car hesitates/stumbles: HELP! (16Again)
I will have to do this in the morning. When I got home it was too dark (no garage) and the motor way to hot.
I hope I won't have to replace a burnt plug wire. If I do what kind or what can I do to keep it from burning again. I don't want to put the spark plug wire mfg.'s CEO's kid through college replacing wires every other day.

Had my headers installed today. Corvette Connection installed MSD wires, they have metal under the boot so you can bend the wire away from the header. I did have the GM hot wires but, they were on the header so before any problems the guys at the shop just installed the MSD's.

Can I pick up a set of those at Wal-Mart? I don't know if any of the parts places will be open on Sunday and I REALLY want to race tomorrow.
FWIW, I found a thread about a similar problem with a guys camaro on LS1.com only he doesn't have headers. I really think it is the plug wires. hopefully, one just came loose, but I bet I got a fried one :mad

I may be wrong, but I've heard from a few different sources that most octane booster is bad for ls1 engines because they harm the o2 sensors. If you want to take advantage of the higher octane, you would need to up the timing anyway and adjust the af ratio, right?

Never heard that before. Doesn't mean it's wrong. I will have to do some more research on this. Too late now anyway it's in the tank.
I got it mostly for it's cleaning properties and the possibility of bad gas (that's a long shot though since I was on the same tank I drove on all week).
Re: LT Headers installed... Now car hesitates/stumbles: HELP! (Carsnob)
1) pop the hood and make sure there are no leaks after the maf.
2) If none, try the car at WOT...does it hesitate? If it doesnt, it may be the O2 sensors. O2 sensors are only used at part throttle, not WOT, so if the car runs great at WOT then you may have things narrowed down a little.
3) its hard to think one plug wire would do what you're describing, but it may.
4) If you plugged the drivers side O2 wire into the passenger side plug, and vice versa, the car will hesitate, especially after learning. it needs to learn each bank properly and if the o2 wires are crossed its going to screw up. Make SURE the wire from the drivers side goes to the drivers side header, and the same for the psg side. The mistake isnt that uncommon.

Guys,
Thanks for all the help last night. Just got back in the house from under the hood. The boot on the plug closest to the firewall on the drivers side bank of cylinders came off in my hand when I pulled on it ever so slightly.
I put it back good and snug like the rest are. I checked all the rest too. Everything seemed ok. I didn't crank it 'cause it was 8am on a Sunday morning and I didn't want to wake half the apt. complex :D
Looks like clean livin' comes through again :blueangel:
It looks like the metal shields that are on the boots are will keep me from cooking a wire. I'm assuming these are stock? I may upgrade to the MDS later if I have another problem of this sort.
