Car has been acting weird for a couple of weeks. Sometimes after a drive I come back and it wont crank over. If I turn the key back and forth to the start position, the starter will sometimes "bump" and if the engine fires, it will only run for a couple of seconds then die. Several times it has just died on the road like the fuel or ignition is suddenly killed. Then the no start problem will occur. Battery checks ok and cables seem fine. For awhile it would restart after it sat overnight, now it wont even do that. Security light has been on when the no start occurs, and I'm getting some other BCM codes including B2723. I installed headers several weeks before the problem.
Re: Help! 97 Vette died and wont start. (nozebleed)
Mag Red had a problem similar sort of... He installed the headers and it heated up the area and burned through the starting wires, do a search for Mag Red Monster, he has posted pictures of what happened.

If you have another key try it, the vats chip on your main key may be worn (especially if you hang a bunch of keys from your ring in the ignition) and not making contact inside the ignition cylinder or the contacts inside the cylinder may be shot, that may explain the security light which puts the computer in a lock out or shut down for 4 minutes at a time.
Re: Help! 97 Vette died and wont start. (Stilcrazee)
I've tried the other key, tried cleaning the key, checked as many connections between the battery and starter as I could reach. I may pull the header and check all wiring for shorts or burns.
Right before it happened the first time, I got a flat tire warning on the DIC. Tire was fine. Could I have a bad BCM?
Re: Help! 97 Vette died and wont start. (nozebleed)
Sounds a little like what happened to mine a couple of years ago.
While cruisin' down the freeway it just shut down. Tried to restart it. It would fire up and immediately die again. I thought it felt like fuel starvation. Flat-bedded to dealer. He changed fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines, all to no avail. Finally, after having it for a week, found loose ground connection on rear clip, just behind of the rear axle, driver's side. Tightened, fine ever since. All was under warranty at that time. They even gave me a Geo Metro to drive around. :D
Best of luck in locating and repairig the problem you're experiencing.
