Need to know best alignment specs for 98 C5 cp. Have a little cupping going on on the very insides of both front tires. Always maintain 30 psi cold, have 23,000 miles on tires, and it is still very smooth at any speed. Input needed, Thanks. :chevy ;)
The ride is perfectly smooth. I have been using stick on wheel weights, but the ride is and always has been smooth. Is everyone letting a good alignment shop use stock factory settings. Street driven car. :chevy
I see the same cupping on my '02 with 19000 miles on the stock EMTs. I had it allighned when I first got the car. There is no detectable imbalance at any speed.
The cupping you have if not really really bad is actually pretty common to cars with the stock alignment. It is a combination of two adjustments camber and toe. Actually, I think you are probably running a little toe out in the front with some negative camber. Has the car been lowered? or is it stock. I am assuming you are running the stock EMTs. The EMTs are a little less forgiving to alignment because fo their stiffness, and will show wear from alignment much faster than say a regular tire. I recommend for the street to run as close to zero camber and as little toe as you can. With EMTs I dont recommend running more than half a degree of camber, and just enough toe to keep the car stable and running true. (to be honest, I don't have my alignment sheet with me, or I would give you the exact numbers.)
If you are running EMTs, the air pressure does not make the difference that it does on regular tires, some but no where close to the old days. Balance is a pain as the tire is sooooo heavy it can take several tries to get it right, and sometimes you have to re register the tire on the rim to get the balance weight down to something sane!
Just a couple of 2 cents. Check the alignment.

:iagree: with BlueDragon above. Any good shop will have the stock GM specs for your car. Just tell them that you want the front camber set as close to 0 as possible. Inside tire wear is common because the car is set up a little more agressively than needed for street driving. :smash: :)
If I can remember I will post my street settings on tues. I am pretty happy with my street tire wear right now. No cupping and pretty even. I am a heavy autocrosser and runn Hoosiers on the track and then I change it to a much more agressive set up with a degree of negative Camber all around, a small amout of toe in in front to preset/preload the front for quicker steering response and a slight amount of toe out on the rear to set the rear and keep it behind me under hard braking and WOT out of the turns. Soo I actually change alignment twice a year.
Thanks BlueDragon and everyone else. Don't feel I need to replace the tires, not causing any problem. Will look into alignment at a good shop if I can find one with a new machine and good operator. :chevy ;)

Thanks, I had their catalog and I think I gave it away. You had good results ? Skip :chevy
Skip--So far I have had great results and no noticeable decrease in handling performance characteristics. The alignment shop thought the setup chart was so good they wanted to copy it and use it for future vette applications.
