Default Hypertech Power Tuning and spark knock

Guys, I've just installed Hypertech Power Tuning (non-RFG) on my 99 C5 A4.
However, when I accelerate I can hear pinging for an instant. I can't hear any pinging at WOT, but it's not easy to hear over engine/road noise in a WOT situation. I'm using the stock thermostat/fan settings and 95RON fuel.
My coolant temp was 192 degrees when I tested the car. Anybody have experience of the Hypertech Power Tuning? Is it safe to use the car as it is, or should I re-flash back to stock? Also, what's the easiest way of measuring KR (Predator??)

Thanks :)

Are you running any type of aftermarket maf ? On my F-body I had nothing but trouble with hypertech's power tuning. I would suggest you remove the power tuning and go from there.

Good Luck

We had the same problem with my sons 2001 Transam, and they have come out with an update to fix the spark knock. We sent it back and they installed the new update that took care of the knock. They added a -1 to the part number so that they would know it was updated if we ever sold it.

May now have an update for the C5's, I would call them . They NEVER should of sold them if they could not back up what they claimed.

Hey Bill C......Do you have the number for Hypertech ? I had the same problem with spark knock so I just removed that part of the program and never used it again..I'd like to use it to see if it gives any gains before i start using my LS-1 edit

The phone number is 901-382-8888..After calling Hypertech and discovering that they had no fix at that time for knock or ping we also pulled that portion of the programing out. After several months my son called and they had him UPS it back and they installed a software upgrade and sent it back next day delivery. No ping now..

If you send yours back make sure you put your car back to stock before you send it back.

Bill

I don't know what you mean by "non-RFG", but the Hypertech on our 2002 has been perfect. It actually eliminated a little knock that we were getting with an aftermarket exhaust (who knows why, but perhaps less backpressure?).

Non RFG means non reformulated Gasoline, it is a very aggressive tuning. One option is to try the RFG tuning mode, it is less aggressive in the number of degree's it advances timing. C5+ZR1 in the winter months most states use oxygenated gasoline or Reformulated Gasoline, it may even be a lower octane in certain area. This is done to comply with the clean air act.
