I was all set to go with Yank converters until the installer was adamant about using Vigilante. Are there any reasons why Yank is not as good as Vigilante line? Everything I was reading on the forum led me to belive the opposite.
Per everyone's suggestion, I was leaning towards 3.42 gears and SY 3500. Yank actually suggested that I stick with my 3.15 gears and use SS 3200. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I don't have either yet. I currently have 2.73 and a stock converter. I talked to a shop and they said I would have less problems if I used a Vigilante. I talked to a second shop and they said to stick with the Vigilante 2800 and some 3.42's.

What problems were they talking about? I just installed the Yank SY3500 and 3.42s and a tranny cooler and couldn't be happier! Its a totally new car!
I have the SY3500 and 3.42 gears and Trans=go
What a combo
Different and better all the way around.

Both are excellent converters. Depending on the converter your 60 ft times will be similar. Many of the Yank converters are more efficent than the Vigs. and will give you a bit more trap speed. Vig gives you a free restall if you don't like the stall speed you bought, Vigs customer service is said to be excellent. Yanks customer service leaves something to be desired in some cases. I have a Yank converter (ST3500) I like it very much I have not had any problems with it.
I prefer the Vigilantes. I have installed both the 3500 Yank and the 2800 Vigis and would out a doubt say that the Vigi give a more seat of the pants differnece. Plus I was able to drop .7 off my times with a Vigi.   Plus Vigis don't have chattering prblems like some of the Yanks I have seen out there. DOn't get me started on the Yank trannies either.... needless to say I have seen a Yank tranny dies in less then a week on several occasions.
Well, I wasn't going to comment, but here it goes.
Usually, an aftermarket converter is chosen for only one reason (better acceleration over stock). My combo has consistently produced low ET's with a minimum of bolt on’s. The Vigilante filled that bill for me. With only the converter and the usual bolt-ons (cold air intake, DR’s, a cat back and some shift management), I ran consistent 12.4’s in the heat last summer. My 60 ft. times with BFG DR’s rarely go higher than the 1.8’s. I have done three 1.69’s. In fact, it is hard not to get a 1.8, just flat foot it and off you go! In cool air, I run 12.2’s and in a 42 degree day (-800 ft. DA), I ran a 11.992. Even in the heat, my mph runs 111-112 mph (before the cam install). This with only 318 RWHP/328 RWTQ.
The Vigilante has given me no problems also, just like many of the other Yank’s etc. I know that it is very efficient, losing only a small amount of HP between the locked and unlocked conditions.
I agree that the reps. at PI were very helpful in helping me pick out the right converter for my needs.
I now have added a radical mod :D to the mod list, so it will be interesting this Friday at Ennis what my combo will do.
just installed a yank st 3500 and 3.42's and had no problems at all , would do it again in a heartbeat... can't beat the yank mod . just my .2 cents. :yesnod:
Sorry guys if this is turning into a pissing match ;) but I also heard of this chattering problem with Yank. On the paper, it looks like Yank appears to be the better product BUT this comparison is from Yank's website and I am sure it's extremely unbiased :D
I think the consensus on the Forum is for Yank. I have never owned a P.I. products and they may well be just as good. However, I am well satisfied with my Yank and also no chatter.
I am in no way knocking yank converters. I can only speak of my personal experience with P.I. If you want a converter that hits hard of the line and will deliver some awesome 60fts go with P.I. The yanks are some what more efficent, that only comes in to play if you want a dyno queen. Both are quality converters
I love my ST3500 and certainly would not change to vigilante for nothing. I still have my 3:15 rear for now and it still pulls very hard. Eventually some day the 3:42's will go in.
Well, here is my rule of thumb. Under 3000 stall, we generally use the Vigilante's. Over 3000 RPM stall, we generally use the Yanks. The Viges seem to loose a little efficiency at higher stall speeds where the Yanks do not.
