Default Are there really any performance gains

I installed the Blackwing as the only mod to my 99 and I just bought the ZO6 intake air screens but it really doesnt make sense to me that the screens would create more HP or even make the car breath better since all the air going into the motor is directed through the Blackwing. Anyone know if there is any HP gains with these two cheap mods?? Thanks

The Blackwing will give you gains. Installing the screens properly will feed the Blackwing cold air and help produce more HP with your engine. Adding both is a good thing to do for your car. :)

You should gain about 15 RWHP with the Blackwing, the screens help get cooler air for your engine to breath thus making a bit more power.

Screens: One would think that removing this flow restriction would end up giving gains.

However, the mass air flow sensor is calibrated for the amount of turbulence that the screens add to the laminar air flow after the filter. Getting rid of the screen gets rid of the turbulence, no turbulence and the calibration of the MAF is off, MAF calibration off implies that the mixture will be off, mixture off implies you will not produce max HP.

STLBLUE75,
I've done both and seen both done on the dyno. Descreening the MAF showed no results on the dyno. Blackwing showed a gain of 6RWHP.

Also any RAM AIR type system usually doesn't show up on a dyno since the car isn't moving - no RAM AIR affect. In fact I have always wondered how manfuctures can claim any gains on a RAM AIR system unless they were able to put a positive air charge into the cars intake while on the dyno?

Mitch A. and Thrap, I think the poster is talking about the "screens" in the fog light area of the front bumper. Not the screen in the MAF.
I think he is saying: since all of the air is going to the Blackwing anyway, how does opening up the fog light area help?
My question to anyone about this is: How does any air get to the Blackwing anyway?
The front shroud blocks all the air and sends it to the radiator. Other than "leakage around the bottom of the car, where is the designed airflow to a non-Z06 airfilter?

PRE 01'S benefit beautifully with Intakes. I dynoed stock in May of 01 with 305/324 and with Blackwing and Stingers I dynoed 331/346 a year later with a smooth curve actually producing more Torque than a buddies 01 Z06.

Thanks for all the input, I guess I will leave it to the track times to determine if it helps or not since there seems to be a little discrepency in the actual gains.
