When installing an LS6 intake on a 98 vette, why do you have to have the newer coolant lines in order to install it?
I'm in the process of installing on right now and the LS6 intake fits over the original coolant lines that I have right now ( I have a 98 vette) with no problems. So I'm just wondering why everyone says you have to have these new lines? Thanks
You don't have to. You just have to be sure that the intake completely clears the old coolant tube as well as anything else underneath (clips for the knock sensors, bolt heads for the valley cover). It's important that you accurately torque down the intake bolts and get a good seal on all eight of the runner gaskets.
The webbing on the underside where the coolant tube will sit needs to be clearanced. I mapped the pattern on the intake and used a hand-held grinder to take the plastic webbing off. I haven't heard of anyone who has been able to install one using the old coolant tube without doing so, although I myself have only done it on my own car. After grinding, it slipped over everything with no problems.
