I'm installing hud into my 98 as I speak and was wondering if anyone had pics of the hole im supposed to cut in the dash?
I see the outline but dont know if I cut all the way to the end of the dash or not.
Any tips would be highly appreciated as I want to get this done.
Thanx in advance
Cut to the inside of the indentions in the pad. Then put the trim piece in and take a dremel tool and shape, little by little till you cut the pad to fit barely inside the lip on the trim piece. Be careful that you don't cut too much without fitting and then trimming it up to fit. When finished you will have a U-shaped hole to fit the trim piece into. Yes you cut all the way to the end and take out the piece of dash pad
I and probably many others would love to see a how-to for getting that dash pad off and back on - it would just need to pick up where some of the really good white face gauges how-tos leave off. Please......
$650 is not a bad deal. If you got it from a vendor of some sort send me the address. I have a 99 and thought I needed a new gauge cluster as well. I know I don't have the buttons on the left of my dash for the HUD controls. Does that mean I do need a new dash? I was thinking of doing the HUD the right way like you are or doing it using the cheap $250 HUD setup offered for the LT1 crowd.

you may or may not have a HUD capeable cluster, you'll have to remove your cluster and see if it has a connector on the top for the HUD projector.
if yours has this connector, all you need is the HUD projector, HUD switch and harness, and HUD bezel.
BTW, I paid $300.00 at a swap meet for a cluster (with HUD switch) and HUD projector! the bezel cost $16.00 brand new from my local chevy dealer.
I read earlier on another thread that HUD cars have different windshields. The HUD projects on to the windshield. How or does that effect the HUD. :seeya
I can tell you from personnel experience, I needed the cluster for my 99. I was shocked to find out, I did not have a HUD compatible cluster. I recommend anyone with a 99 to check first to see if you have the HUD cluster. I learned the hard way.

That's true. When my dad got a crack in his windshield, every place we called, including Chevy, said that it needed a special windshield. Cost, $1000+. One place wanted almost $2000.
