I have a musty smell that is coming from the a/c vents that started when the car was less than a year old. It smells like mold or mildew. The dealer has sprayed a doderizer into the intake vent near the windshield wipers 4 or 5 times and the odor keeps coming back. I have found a bulliten # 99-01-39-004a that addresses this problem and was wondering if anyone has installed this kit and if it has eliminated the odor problem.
Hi! Welcome to the Forum. Get an old (or new) spray bottle, make up a one part Clorox, four parts water solution. Turn the key to "on", or start the car, turn on the AC and put the blower on high, and spray the solution into the vent for a minute. Repeat as necessary. You don't want to simply "deoderize" it, you want to "Kill it!"

I have a '99 and do not have an AC odor.
When I had my C4 in Iowa, it would be somewhat inactive in the winters and one time I climbed in only to scare a mouse. I hope something like that did not crawl into your vents.........but it might explain the odor.
Good luck tracking it down and getting rid of the odor.
Very common problem: lots of threads in past years. There's also a TSB from GM for this. Search the forum; you'll find lots of references.
:iagree: GM ended up replacing my entire air conditioning system last fall for this exact issue. I'm allergic to mold so the problem was intense for me in that my sinuses would swell up as soon as I sat in the car with the air on. Their fix has worked so far, although one weird thing is that the air conditioning fan will kick on periodically for a couple of minutes at a time for hours after the car is turned off. There's even a sticker they put on the underside of the dash on the passenger side saying not to be alarmed by this.

They installed this Module on our 01 Tahoe for the same smell. Our friend had one installed on his 01 Vette. Both free under warranty.
Have done this to several vehicles, works pretty darn good. The fan coming on is to recirculate air over the evaporator to keep it dry and prevent mold and bacteria growth.
Glad to hear that it has worked for you. I must be allergic also because my eyes burn for hours after I drive it with the system on auto. I have to shut the system off completely in order to drive it now. The dealer has ordered the kit and hopefully this will take care of it.
