New member here, well after searching for a Z06, i decided on a 03' Blk/Blk 6spd cpe. The Z06 were to hard to come by. I am in love with the car already. However, i noticed a grinding noise when taking off from a standstill. Is this normal? Also, when i shut the engine off, it seems to sputter. I have always driven import cars and never a V8 so i am used to the engine being more subtle. Maybe i am being **** about this but any info will be appreciated.
Those noises may be normal if your description of them is suspect?
A sound like marbles rattling around in a can is normal during a gentle take-off in first gear. A similar sound is normal when you shut it down if your foot is on the clutch. If you put it in neutral, release the clutch, and shut it down - that should silence the shut-down noise. Accellerating more briskly will silence the other noise (if it's the rattling).
Both noises that I describe are associated with torque tube or flywheel, and are considered normal by GM.
Those are exactly the sounds i was describing. I was a little upset about it but everything else about the car i like so i can overlook that if it's considered normal. :D
I heard similar noises when I purchased my 2000 Coupe with the MN6 transmission. I took it back to the dealer and they said it was normal. There have been several other posts about it here that lead me to believe that it is in fact normal, although I don't think it should be. It might not hurt to take it back in to the dealer to have it checked out, just to make sure it is the "normal" noise and not something more serious.
Congratulations on the car! :hurray: If you watch the video (the 2003 still comes with a video, right?) there should be a passage in which they describe (and demonstrate) the "normal" drive-train noise. That should make it easy to determine if you are just experiencing the normal level of noise from the transmission or if something else may be going on. Enjoy the car.
