I have an '02 Coupe and would like to upgrade my performance, hopefully to get close to the Z06.
Since I want to protect my warranty, I would like to stick to bolt on mods, if possible. I have a Corsa Tigershark exhaust and X pipe on order. I also have Z06 size wheels on order. Other than that, I am stock performance.
I guess my next upgrade will be a Vararam, or other intake system.
Can anyone help me decide on what other mods to consider to get to 400-450 HP? I don't race, but I love the power.
Your going to have to put on alot of bolt ons to get to 450hp. You may want to look into a head and cam package. Or do what most people do and install nitrous, that HP in a bottle. :steering:

Here's what I did to get as close to to Z06 as I could (in order):
1) Rims and tires
2) LS6 air lid + K&N
3) Z51 package (suspension + steering cooler)
4) Heads and Cam (haven't tuned/dyno'd yet, but I am sure I'll have around 430BHP)
I went very conservative with the cam because I wanted a stealthy sound. Even my engine bay looks 100% stock. I know I can get more out of it if I changed a few other things, but STOCK look is what I was after.

Thanks for the info. I am going in the same direction, except maybe a Vararam. Looking at a few other goodies, too.
The only way to get Z06 peformance out of the LS1 is to do the Head/Cam thing. I have a Coupe because I always liked the body style better and I enjoy having the ablity to removed the roof panel on sunny days. I have all the intake and exhaust bolt ons possible, as well as 3:73 gears and the Z06s still walk away from me from about 3rd gear and above. I drag race and road race the car, and it has dyno'ed about 341 RWHP. I would reccomend a Z06 tranny over the 3:73 rear end. I've found with the 3:73s I have alot of wheel hop shifting from 1st to 2nd on the drag strip. The Z06 tranny will give a MN6 car the same gear rations as the Z, but you still will have the HP deficit, as well as some suspension upgrades to get close to Z06s on the track.
Perhaps I'm showing my ignorance here, but as far as gear ratios, why would the M12 with 3.42's be any different than the MN6 with 3.90's (that's the closest you can come)?
So long as the final drive is the same (or nearly - 10.16 vs 10.37 for the MN6 in 1st, and 7.08 vs 6.94 in 2nd), is there any bearing on *how* you get to that multiple, whether it's from the tranny or the rear-end multiple?
i.e, in a given gear, is there any functional difference between a 1:1 tranny gear ratio, and 10:1 rear end, versus a 10:1 gear and 1:1 rear end?
yes, I'm new to gearing changes - we didn't have that option with AWDs!
The problem with the stock LS1 is the cam and heads. The stock Z06 will walk away from you even with your 3.73 gears. I had my mn-6 coupe with 4.10's, headers, cat-back exhaust with x-pipe, ported and polished throttle body, throttle bypass, vortex rammer, power duct. I could beat most stock Z06's with this (because I would beat them out of the hole) but the stock internal LS1 pulls strong to 3500 rpm and then softens up to the 6000 rpm redline. The LS6 (Z06 engine) starts pulling at 3,500 rpm and continues to pull stronger and stronger to the 6500 rpm redline.
In order to have that kind of performance, you need to replace the mild cam and have your heads ported and polished with heavier duty valve springs and bigger valves to match the cam choice.
Do this and you can have as much as 420 rear wheel horsepower compared to the 345 to 355 of a stock Z06. Best of luck!

Or, you can keep your heads stock, and just change the cam and valve springs (and maybe do chromemoly pushrods, titanium valve spring retainers, and upgraded timing chain). You ought to be able to get 380rwhp or more with headers and a cam leaving the heads stock, which is enough to surpass a stock Z06.

LGM G5 X2 Cam package
LT Headers
Exhaust cut outs for the track
Black wing intake w/ LS6 manafold.
Expecting clost to 400rwhp
