Supposed to squeak? I have a pretty viscous brake squeel when just cruising around. Large stops from High speed have no squeak. I also have Baer 2 piece rotors if that makes any difference.
I have the regular hawk pads and had no additional noise.
I have run Hawk Plus with VB rotors, and yes you will get brake squeal I was running them for autocross and under performance driving conditions just like you said no noise. I burned that set out and went to Eradis with Performance plus pads, now those really make noise! But if you did not have a seat belt on there would be no way to stop from being thrown thru the windshield if I was on the brakes hard. Those would stop ya like hitting a brick wall! (would get out and actually look for damage!:jester Would actually make you dizzy on a hard stop from speed Welp! a year of autocross and heavy street driving and I burned those out, along with a set of calipers. Now I am running the Eradi speed rotors, and Hawk street pads with a new set of Stock calipers (powder coated nassau blue) (not racing this year) and they are nice and quiet. Every now and then a very faint squeal, but with a little heat it goes away, before the car stops. With the Hawk plus pads, I was able to control the noise with that red goop that you put on the caliper piston, and a couple of spots on the outside pad. (did not help the performance pads, just had to live with it!)
I have learned that performance pads just make noise. With the performance plus pads, I sounded like a city bus stopping!
I have the Hawks and no squeak...Snake Slayer just put the Hawks on his car with new rotors and said they squeak...so maybe its a rotor thing

I also have a squeal, I spoke to Hawk tech support today and was told the the street pads are supposed to be very quiet, he also went on to say the drilled and slotted rotors alter the harmonics of the breaking system and blames that for the squeal. He suggested grinding down the edges of the pads. I would also suggest you perform the burn in procedure all over again...6-10 stops from 30-35 moderate pressure, 2 stops 40-45 and then cool the rotor for 15 mins.
:iagree: Hum, I can believe the harmonics, but really think from experience it has to do with the hardness of the pads, and also the condition of the springs and shims that hold them in the calipers. I am running the eradis now and no noise. and I do not have any anti-squeal stuff on. I tried them all sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. Sooo that is why I am sort of resigned to the fact that the higher performance more agressive pads will in fact make noise!
I think in some cases the harmonic discussed above may have something to do with it, but???? jury is out on that.
The only bummer is feeling like you are driving around the Ghetto Vette. People look funny at you at stoplight (more so than usual) and my date on saturday night comented that it was loud. I guess I can always say "Sure it's loud, but I can outbrake just about anything on track day."
I am not sure how much I buy into the harmonics, but I can certianly understand the hardness issues. As the saying goes:"The gods of performance giveth and the gods of performance aketh away."
