Received my CCW wheels yesterday evening and man they are
Installed them this afternoon and realized after backing up 5ft that I had some rubbing/grinding in the rear. At first I thought it may be the wheel well as I have 18x11.5 with 335/30's, however, there was no indication. After takeing the wheels off I noticed that the grinding/rubbing was the caliper hitting the inside of the rim (even with a 1/4" spacer in place).
I current have the Baer Eradispeed +/+1 setup, and the rear rotors are simply too big (14"). I spoke with John this afternoon (very helpful and a class act) and basically it boils down that I will need to remove the Eradispeeds as I do not want to have the wheels rebuilt with a smaller lip.
What rotors would you recommend?
I don't have deep pockets right now, so basically I'm looking for a setup that runs no more than $600 - $700. My car is primarily used on the street, however, I go to the drag strip a couple times per month, and since I'm having John at CCW build me an additional pair of wheels for the track, I think I'll be going at least once a week :reddevil
Honestly I would go back to the stock rotors. The Baer and others are just for show. You can hardly see the rotors behind the ccw's anyway. Just my .02

Stock rotors are hard to beat around $60.00 delivered in the U.S.
Re: Rotor Recommendation for CCW setup (Richin Chicago)
Good point on the OEM rotors. They're relatively inexpensive, however, I'm not sure how well they stand up against drag strip abuse. I have heard that the OEM rotors are prone to warping....

Any recommendations? I have the DBA and love them.
I run 8 to 10 roadcourse events a year. I have melted caliper boots and eaten pads like candy but have never warped a rotor nor have I ever seen 1 warped. What I have seen is people who thought they had warped rotors that were "cured" by hard track driving. What I think is really happening is uneven pad material build up on the rotors. Honestly, the OEM rotors are very good and you have to spend a lot of money to really do better.
I have broken the stock rotors at the track which made me go with the Brembos for the front, now that they have a stock size rotor replacement for the rear you would think it would be better than the stock rotors.
Re: Rotor Recommendation for CCW setup (Snake Slayer)
A stock C5 uses very little rear brake. Going to the drag strip is not hard on the rear brakes at all. Previous to my current set up I regularly road and drag raced my car. I could kill a set of front pads on a hard weekend but the rears would look brand new. Go back to stock rotors and save the money.
The CCW drag set up will not fit over the Willwood brakes.
I have the Street CCW setup with Michelin Pilot's(18x10 front 275/35 18x11.5 rear 335/30). I thought the Wilwood rotors were OE size?
The CCW Drag Package is very different than the street set up. It is impossible to fit the rear wheel (CCW W/Slicks) over a Willwood brakes. He (John Purner at CCW), can make a set of street wheels to fit but not a set of wheels with slicks. Call John at CCW and ask him about his "Drag Package" and big brakes.
I would love to come to a agreement on the rear ++1's if your going to be getting rid of them. Heck I'll even pay shipping (really). And the fronts also if you go for all 4. My car might have to sit on the jacks for a while. but the BMW need a few miles put on it also.
Decided to stick with the Eradispeed mainly because I found a pair of brand new never used rear 1 piece OE size Eradispeeds for a killer price :hurray:
Looks like I'll be putting the 2-piece 14" rears with under 1500miles up for sell in the comming week. The only thing I dislike about these rotors (besides not fitting the CCW's) is that they look a little odd with use due to the surface area sweep.
Ernest, you have first dibbs.
James (FL1BY) I'm sure we can come to an agreement should Ernest not want them. By the way, what model bimmer do you have??
So far I Am very pleased with the Wilwood rotors. If you get the 2 piece fronts just be sure you safety wire the bolts holding the rotor to the hat:eek:
Other than that they are lighter than Eradispeeds, pump more air than Eradispeeds and will hold up to autocross no problem. If you don't get the cross drilling they'll hold up fine with track use. These bolt right up with stock calipers.
Joe
PS I got my set from Ben at Dilusi. Really good guy to work with.
