Unfortunately, not easily. The dealer can remove your current lock nuts with one of an assortment of keys in their possession. Then you can either replace the lock nuts with regular lug nuts, or buy an aftermarket set of lock nuts.
You should have a card that came with it to order a new one..also I believe but I am not sure ther are only so many combinations and the dealer should have a key to get your wheels off...if not they can get them off...trust me :yesnod: mine are so F'd up thinking about doing away with them all together
so the dealership is my only route huh? ok.........I'll give them a try.....thanks guys
no, any good tire shop can probably get them off but if they F up your wheel you may be SOL then again you may be SOL at the dealer as well...but I would try the dealer first in hopes that they have a key
The card should have a perforated section you tear off and send in with your payment. The part you tear off has the manuf. info they need to match the wheel lock key to your set. The price now is double what is listed on that card. :flag :flag
Most good tire shops have a "universal" key that they can use to remove the locking lug nut. then just put a standard lugnut on it; till you get a new key from manuf. the new 03's don't even come with a locking lug nut anymore. If someone wants your wheels the locking lugnut won't make them a bit of difference.
I would bet that the card says they were made by Amcor ... to contact them directly (you need the serial number from your card so they can match the key) :
The price on the card says $10 but once you get your locks you will find the price has change to $15. I just bought two of the locks. Save yourself time and send them $15.
Amcor does send the locks in a speedy manner. Less than 2 weeks and I had my locks
I bought my car used, and it didn't come with the lug key.
I used a 6 point deep well impact socket, either 3/4 or 13/16...can't remember which, and just hammered it over the locking nut. It will destroy the locks doing this, but the socket will bite into them well enough to remove the nuts. At no point was I even close to nicking or damaging the wheels. I bought a new lock set beforehand for about $20.
And something else to think about, if the locking lug is this easy to get off....how effective are they in protecting your wheels?
Used a smaller size metric socket and beat it on a little (carefull not to ding the wheel) then cranked it a bit and it got enough bite to get the lock nuts off. Had to go get new lock nuts with a new key at the auto shop, but this works. Did it when I lost my key and was going to change my front rotors
Guess Y2Kvert4me beat me to the punch. I did the same thing as he did
You can get a new set at your dealer, comes with a key, four locking lugs and the card with the lock number on it so you can re-order the key. I think it sells for around 30-40 dollars. The old locks will need to be removed first.
Take them to Bow, he'll take them off.... :yesnod:
To avoid losing them store them in the small compartment that is made for them.
I was talking to a couple of Corvette owners the other day who didn't know this thing existed.
In the back, open the trunk/hatch and remove the cover on the left side, that's behind the driver.
On the right most edge of the compartment there is a little slot, that is to store the lock key so you don't lose it, I find folks that store them in the glove box or center compartment lose them more often.
When I get done working on them, this slot is where I always put them.
That's why I was talking to those guys, I had put it in there and the guy couldn't find it because he didn't know it was there!
Also if you get a new set, you will notice that the reorder card has a label that has adhesive on the back, remove it and affix it to the vehicle somewhere, inside the glove box or under that rear storage cover on the lid maybe. That way you won't lose it either.
Just a little tip to help you out if you have them.
I would reccomend (after you get them off :-) ) replacing them with standard lug nuts. Thieves that will steal your wheels are not going to be stopped by this minor inconvienence. Saves a lot of headaches for you!
