I just had a Cartek Stage II heads and cam install done. The engine now seems to chatter away a lot louder than it did before. Is this to be expected? And will it go away over time?
Sounds like a sewing machine at first...becomes a musical note.....hard to know what you are hearing tho. If in doubt take the car back to cartek and have them take a listen.
To be expected, mostly due to more valvetrain noise from aggressive cams. There's not really any way around it, unless maybe you can get extra insulation between you and the engine compartment. Otherwise turn up the radio, or go WOT and listen to the exhaust instead! :D
'Sounds like a sewing machine' - good description. I thought it was probably due to the new values/springs etc. Pulls well though so I'm not comlaining. I'm going to give it an LS1 Edit this weekend to smooth out the idle a bit though.
Hmmm.... sowing machine, more like a someone rattling a biscuit tin full of rusty spanners to me! The noise is basically backlash in the valve train promoted by the larger cams and lumpier idle. More noise = more metal bits thrashing back and forth = more wear, so I decided to increase the idle to a point where the car still has a bit of the rumpa rumpa rumpa thing going on at the exhaust but I don't have to crank the Motorhead/Metallica/Mudvane at idle.
