Default Performance Mods Question

I am somewhat "mechanically challenged" so please bear with me.

I have an '02 Coupe, automatic, pure stock, and I am starting to do mods with my goal to equal or exceed Z06 performance, 400+ RWHP.

I do not currently do any type of racing, on or off the street. I simply want to have a more powerful car with balanced power across the board.

I have ordered a Vararam and a Corsa TigerShark exhaust and crossover pipe. I have ordered Z06 size wheels, and I am very close to ordering the Goodyear F1 Supercar tires (chosen over Michelin Pilot Sports).

I have decided on installing ported heads and a OEM Z06 cam.

Now the problem. My car has 2.73 gears. Should I replace them with OEM 3.42 gears or is there a better alternative?

Do I need to consider an upgrade to the stock brakes?

Do I need to make modifications to the suspension?

Are the performance mods I have planned sufficient to achieve the goal of 400+ RWHP?

Are there any glaring weak spots in my plans or additional mods I should consider?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and suggestions.

The varam is a good choice for an air intake. The x-pipe may not provide any real HP but will eliminate most of the popping sound one gets on deceleration.

The wheels and tires are a great combo that IMHO you will be happy with.

I think you should change out the rear to a minimum 3.42 but would have you consider a 3.73.

you probably want to look into some kind of mod to maybe beef up your transmission.

Since you are doing heads/cam I suggest Long Tube Headers and an underdrive pulley. The pulley is cost prohibitive to install alone but should be strongly considered when all is apart for the heads/cam already.

With your mods and the others I have mentioned you will need some kind of custom tuning of your PCM.

With the tuning you can have your transmission shift points adjusted appropriately.

In my opinion without a more agressive cam and having an automatic you may not be able to attain 400 RWHP.

I think to even have a chance you will need the headers, underdrive pulley and tuning.

Best of luck to you on you mods!

Most A4s go with 3.42 gears but do not forget a good torque converter. I have 3.15s w/ a 2800 stall torque converter & it makes me very happy. As for heads & cam; do your self a favor and get a bit bigger cam if your going through the trouble/money. Lastly, keep an open mind regarding having to upgrade your tranny eventually.

If you do all the stuff to make it a z06 you will not get over 400RWHP. You need to do more to get those numbers!

You are right for getting the exhaust, airbox, and heads (although not needed to get 400). However I would get a slightly more agressive cam then the stock one like a TR224...etc! You will need tuning and such to make it idle properly, but it will be worth it!

I would definately get 3.42's although I believe the 2.73 will provide higher numbers on a dyno:)

You do not need to do brakes, unless you want to, and in any case I would get the Eradispeeds or the AC delco, slotted and cross drilled!
