Default Fuel Tank Vibration

I noticed a quick vibration sound coming from somewhere in the vicinity of the rt rear quarter panel, when making wide right turns only (like going around an off ramp). According to the shop manual (the squeaks & vibrations troubleshooting section), it sounds like it could be the fuel tank hitting the intermediate quarter panel. The fix is to drop fuel tank & attach a strip of close cell foam to it. Anyone have this problem??

I hear what feels like a rear plastic-y vibration when I'm stopping/almost stopped, but only sometimes. I am also feeling the vibration when stopped (or almost stopped) described in this thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=566508

I bought the manual on CD and never found my way through the troubleshooting guide (but it helped me pull my transmission out and put it back in when messing with TCs). This tank solution sounds interesting. I almost wondered if it was my license plate hitting the mount, but putting four bolts in it didn't solve the problem... I'd like to just jam something soft up in tank area after taking the heat shield off. I don't suppose it's possible if the manual says to drop the tank, though.

LIGHTNING, hi,

Following your description, I would say, or better : guesstimate, you (your Car) suffer the same enerving prob I had some time ago.

The problem is (might be in your case as well) : FUEL TANK TO UNDERBODY CONTACT/RATTLE NOISE

There is a GM TSB (Technical SVC Bulletin) #99-06-04-052

=> Fuel Tank to Underbody Contact/Rattle Noise (Install Foam Insulator Pad)
=> The forward vertical face of the left/right fuel tank may contact the vehicle underbody in the kick-up area rearward of the driver's/passenger's seat during certain driving maneuvers.
-----------------------------------
=> Install fuel tank foam insulator pad P/N 12493728, between the vertical forward face of the fuel tank and the vehicle's underbody following the service procedure below........(re to the instructions with the insulator pad and the TSB)

In the case the car is still under warranty, pls go to a GM Dealer and have them order the part and install. Personal advice : DO NOT just glue the foam piece on to one spot, but divide it in some smaller ones and glue those fractions to ALL noise/rattle suspected areas fwd of the concerned fuel tank.

The installation on our C5 was a complete anti-rattle battle success and I sincerely hope so will yours.

I hope this message was from some help to your probs.

Thanks Joe!
That sounds like it could be it.

This is great info! I asked the dealer if they were familiar with the TSB (left the # at home though), and they weren't. I'm going to see what it costs to fix tomorrow now that I've printed out the TSB #. If they want too much, I'm wondering if I could jam something in the gap without even lowering the tank?
