This is a pain b/c the AC will not cut on until it reachs around 36 degrees. About 10-20 minutes of driving the temperature slowly creeps up degree by degree. Once or twice it made it to 38 degrees in which the AC cut on when it hit 36. Anyone have any ideas? Is the sensor bad? If so, how much does it cost and does anyone have a GM Part # for it?
What is weird is it worked fine until I took the car off jackstands that it had been on for almost 5 months waiting on rims. How could it go bad just sitting?
Re: Outside Air Temp Sensor reads -37???????? (C5-VERT)
I can't help with the problem, but the part number for the Ambient Air Temp Sensor is 10248414 according to my parts CD, you can probably find a price online to compare to your dealer.

Re: Outside Air Temp Sensor reads -37???????? (C5-VERT)
Probably a bad sensor or a problem in the wiring harness. When the sensor is not hooked up at all it read -37, so for some reason the computer is not seeing it. Did you recently have it out? Maybe it was damaged or dirty too..
Re: Outside Air Temp Sensor reads -37???????? (C5-VERT)
I had this happen on my 00 coupe several times before the dealership finally replaced the temp sensor under warranty. First time was on the way to the beach in 90+ degree weather, and it of course blocked the AC from coming on! If this is like mine, you might notice it starts at somewhere near normal temp, then slowly counts down to -38. It did not happen all the time, so it was quite a deal getting it to happen for the dealer.
Make sure they put your dash back together snug, and god help you if you have any after market add ons like hands free or detector in their way.
Re: Outside Air Temp Sensor reads -37???????? (NoMercy)
You need to replace the sensor and the connector. The waterproof connector does not work real well and it lets in moisture and corrodes. I replaced just the sensor which worked for about 2 days then went nuts again. I then replaced the connector and waterproof shrink wrapped the whole thing. No problems since.

I hope you are right. I did not have time to put the harness in but I went ahead and tried the sensor. Still reads -37. I will put the harness in tommorrow.

BTW, when the temp sensor circuit is opened the default reading is supposed to be 57F according to the GM manual. If you reach down into the cavity below the passenger headlight you'll see the sensor - disconnect it and see if the control unit defaults to 57. At least you'll be able to use the A/C. If this doesn't work, then it could be a problem in the harness or even the head unit in the dash, but I suspect the sensor contacts are corroded or otherwise the cause.

You better put on a jacket, its cold outside!
:lolg:
Well today it decided to start working... :skep: I didn't even put the harness on yet. Now the funny thing is my DIC keeps telling me my oil level is low. I check the dipstick and it is at the top. What the hell is going on with my car???
