Magnuson or ATI for a stock C-5? A-4. I would be willing to change the hood if need be. Which one will give the best long term performance? [IMG][/IMG]

John ,
the ATI and Magnusun are two very different beasts.

If reliabilty is a big concern for you i'd suggest the Magnusun. ( Roots Blower )

If your willing to go through a little heartburn but want to see greater RWHP gains, go with the ATI. ( Centrifical Blower )

Both set ups are very good , but I think its fair to say that the Magnuson is a much more reliable option.

Either way i'm sure you will enjoy both SC's.

Good Luck !

Jeff

I agree with the above posts, and I have the Magnuson. Check out the "C5 Forced Induction/Nitrous" sction of the forum for more input to your question, and you can see all the :seeya , :banghead: , :boxing , , :troll , :lurk: , , and :nopity that get posted whenever a question like yours is asked. Heck,I go for long drives all the time and have no trouble with my Vortech
centrifigal S/C. They offer a 3-year warranty (that I have),they make gobs
of power (that I have as well) and you retain the stock hood! The Magnuson
would have been an easier install for me but I wanted the stock lines (hood).
I couldn't be happier. :D

I did a bit of reseach and ATI was recommended by Xtreme and a few other installers. Xtreme installed the ATI Supercharger on my 2002 Vert but haven't had the chance to drive it yet because the car is still at the shop - doing other mods to it. Give Nate a call. He's not too far from you.

I've used centrifugal blowers for years on street and race cars (B'ville), along with turbos. The main issue for all these blowers' longevity is lubrication. I've used Vortech and both the old ball-drive and gear -riven Paxtons and found this to be the case in all instances. I still have a custom Vortech fab on a 300 ci, 500 hp steet car that I'm quite happy with.

I also recommend Gilmer (cogged belt-drives) in all instances to avoid hassle, even if you must have it custom fabricated. Use the widest that will fit and DO pin your crank pulley no matter what anyone might say.

Yet, I'd sure consider a "Maggie" for my C-5 daily driver, IF I could find a hood I liked to go with it.

All the best. :yesnod:

I selected the Magnuson because of lower boost, ease of install and long term reliability. Vette not used as a DRAG car but a Fun car. Time will tell I made the correct decision :) :)

:iagree: with Steve. I had the magnuson on mine and you cannot beat its off idle power and dependability! Its not intercooled which limits its peak numbers but for looks and power on a street car its hard to beat. I just wouldn't suggest it if you bracket race your car often as I do. Another opinion to weigh in.

I love my ATI. It's been consistant and very reliable. I haven't had any problems with it yet. I usualy don't drive the car very hard, but with the 8 lbs boost, twin intercoolers, and not having to change my stock hood, it's by far the best mod that I've made!

Okay here's what i know.....

If you want something that would give you a good power and wouldn't hurt the engine as much as other superchargers, then get the Magnuson.

If you want something that adds alot more power, and you can get a pulley change and get even more power then get the ATI ...

What i am trying to say is the magnuson power is all what you can get, you can not get more out of it in like a years or something. But the ATI all what you have to do is change the ATI pulley and you get more power, a friend of mine picked up 40rwhp by going from the 7lb pulley to the 8lb pulley..I have seen 12lb pulleys on the ATI that make monster #'s but you would need to change somethings in the engine to do so though...good luck
