Default I need some help regarding headers and nitrous please

I have a 2000 A4 with a VaraRam intake, SLP cat-back, '02 LS6 intake manifold, gutted pup cats, 3.42 differential, Predator programmer, Denso iridium plugs and MSD wires. I recently swapped my 3.15's for the 3.42 and since then I have noticed that my car has lost some of the top-end power it had with the 3.15. I gained a ton of low-end grunt but I also like having a stong top-end for my occassional highway races. Would the addition of headers help me regain the lost power in the upper rpm range? I like the Stainless Works headers and want to make sure the performance increase justifies the cost, because, we all know that headers are not cheap.

Also, I wanted to throw this out. If I were to add nitrous to my car(maybe a 100 shot), can I kiss my transmission goodbye, or is it possible that it will last so long as I don't use the nitrous on a day to day basis? My car currently has 35k miles and while it does run just as good as it did when it was new (well, actually better now with the mods and I had of stuff replaced on the motor under warranty), I worry that adding nitrous may be too much for a stock tranny. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

You should be fine with a 100shot. Your car should have no problem handling the addtion of 100 ponies.

As for headers...I still don't have any. I do not feel that the cost is justified for the increase. I am sure if you were to ever do more mods you may need them, but right now I think your money would be better placed else where!

The gears: I wouldn't think that you would lose top end power. Hell you get there quicker (top speed). With the bottle you can add all that power back anyways....

I definitely agree with you there. I mean, I can see how headers would help a lot if I had heads and cam, but on a stock motor, the performance gain would be small. I'm almost positive that my next mod will be a nitrous kit.

I've invested a lot of money in my car already, only to achieve minimal gains, and I know the only way I will be completely happy is to have some kind of power adder like a supercharger or nitrous, or heads/cam, but I have no desire to mess with the motor. I just want something I can have fun with on the street and the nitrous route is much cheaper than the supercharger.

When I say that it feels like my car has lost some top-end power, what I am trying to say is that with the 3.15's I could punch it at 70 and it would feel like a rocket until I let up around 120 or so. With the 3.42's, I punch it at 65 and it feels faster than with the 3.15's to about 90 but then doesn't pull as hard as it did with the 3.15's. I hope I am making sense with what I am saying.

I ran 150 shot of NX when I was stock. You should never have a problem with the gas along as you don't hit it from a dead stop. It's the initial shock through the drivetrian that breaks stuff, especially when there is slack in it. Just put in a 'momentary switch', like a transbrake button on your shifter, and only push when you need it, even if it's only for a few seconds to get a bumper ahead. About the headers, aftermarket headers won't open up stock heads, you need head work.
