anyone else have this problem?
probably because people grab the plastic when opening the hood
what the best repair
is it easy to repair myself just get a pro to take care of it?
 Sorry, I'm just alittle confused as to what is coming apart? The plastic is coming apart from the hood? The hood is plastic. Are you saying the outer shell is coming apart from it's inner frame? I've never heard of that happening, but that would really **** me off!!!! Hope your still under warranty. You should IM a member here called C5-Tech. You may only need a good bonding agent, but I would do all the investigative research first. Good luck
As your car is a ´97, I think it´s a production failure of the first hoods produced. As far as I know, noone mentioned this before. Maybe the dealer recognizes it as a early production failure and you get a new hood.
If not, it should not be a problem for a good body shop to recommend a bonding material. When I put side spoilers on my sons BMW and later on his Audi, there was always some black gumlike material, with which the parts were bonded together. After 24 hours hardening time, it was impossible to take the parts apart.
yeah its a seperation of the outer plastic from the inner metal frame at the driver side corner closest to the driver. imagine being the corner being able to flap. it appears that it is bonded with a black bonding agent. seems a little cheesy, but probably caused due to abuse from grabbing the plastic corner when opening the hood, my extended warranty ends today (operating without a net now), but it is very specific about excluding all body panels, moulding etc. thanx for the help. i will inquire with a body shop that has experience with add on body kits, etc.
This should be an easy an inexpensive fix to take car of. I work with areospace materials and we do a lot of metal bonding with aircraft components usually using the correct adhesive. I would suggest that you do find a good shop with experience in vettes or someone who has had experience with bonding as the key to a good repair is cleanliness, proper preparation of the two surfaces and the selection of the right bonding material/agent. The hood is a sheet molded compound component and I think there are factory listed repairs and materials for the hood specifically when it comes to the repair. Someone on the forum a while back had the data posted of what all the body panel made from and the recomended types of materials to use. I have a copy of the body section only but it was titled Panel Repair, collision repair chart. Maybe someone can repost the whole section as I don't have it. Good Luck.
