Here's what's in my '99 vert:
RED 75/35
CA: 910
CCA: 720
RC: 90
That's all it says on the top of mine. Works great. Can't find part number anywhere on the battery.

I have the Optima Red Top 34/78 part #8004-003. I am not sure where you got the numbers you listed, but the part number I have is listed on the top of my battery.

The numbers were provided by Optima's internal website. Autozone could not cross referece 8004-003 part number.

C5freak - I take it group 75 works just as well... I was told to go with 78.

Thanks!

sbkim,

If you email me on Tuesday, I can get you the correct part number for the red top you should be using.

Optima changed their part numbers and labels not too long ago, so I will have to check the batteries we have in stock in order to get you the new part number.

The part number that I memorized that Optima no longer uses that is for use on the C5 was: 8004-003.

Hope this kind of helps you.

Shawn

Just installed the same Red Top as listed above this week.
Called Optima and Verified the differnce between the 35/75 and 34/78.
They say both will work in our cars. The 34/78 is the larger battery with 800cca(cold cranking amps) and the 35/75 is the smaller battery with725cca.
The 34/78 did fit and strap down with the group 78 puck that was with the battery in my 00 Coupe.
You can buy the 35/75 on line from Optima Battery Store for 89.95, shipping and tax included.
I bought the 34/78 from AutoZone and it was $119.95 plus tax and core.
Had no choice, the factory Delco did it's number on my wiring harness and vacumun hose or line this week and I needed a new one to take to the dealer. I did not want to chance another Delco. Thank goodness the PCM was ok. Oh and the damage was over $500.00, all under warranty.
Hope this helps and sorry this is so long. :nonod: :nonod: :flag

Thank you for the detailed info! $119 is a bit steep but I am sure after shipping and handling, local price is about the same as mail order.

Go with the yellow top. I sent them a e-mail last week and they recomend a yellow top if your car is not a daily driver. Mine sits for a couple of weeks at a time in the summer. In the winter it may sit for 3 to 4 weeks. They told me that recharging would kill a red top.

I sprung for the 75/35 RT today at Auto Zone. It doesn't fill the battery tray left to right. I tightened it down in the middle...should I be concerned?

Also...I purchased new side connecting bolts since I know mine are rounded at the head!.....I can't get the old ones out of the cables! What is the trick here?.. anyone know what I am talking about?

Here in AZ. they should lease batteries rather than selling them, there all dead except the redtop. Most of my cars are 8.5-9.2:1 CR so no great cranking power is neede.Any how I think this box of jel specially in my trunk away from under hood heat will go the distance,Dave S.

You just need to pull and turn CCW at the same time and they will thread their way out. Just be sure to use a 5/16" box end wrench to put them on instead of an open ended wrench. It will keep them from rounding off and you will get them tighter this way.
