Is it true that the Blackwing air cleaner will allow dust to enter into the engine over time due to it's high flow rate? Do they sell a cover for the Blackwing? Will the hoodseal be enough to prevent unwanted dust particles from getting past the filter?
Donaldson (the manufacturer of the Blackwing) has been in the high end truck air filter business for years. Their reputation is impeccable. The Blackwing's high flow will not result in increasd particulate "pass-through" - more likely the opposite, given the fact that the filter media is significantly more sophisticated that the stock paper element.
Regarding the hood seal, all that does is alter the flow of air within the underhood compartment. It will have no impact on filter efficency.
Actually, the Blackwing is made of synthetic media and are not the same as K&N which are cotton gauze media. Do not use the K&N cleaner on Donaldson! I use only Donaldson cleaning products but I've been told by the vendor (Exit 28) that Simple Green cleaner and Mineral Oil are ok.
:seeya
Donaldson knows something about filtering in nasty enviroments. They supply all the filters used on our main battle tanks and personnel carriers as well as other military vehicles. If you saw the enviroment our military hardware has to play you will appreciate their expertise.
