To those who have had MORE THAN ONE (we have to have a frame of reference beyond just x vs stock) aftermarket intake:
Okay, we've beaten the "best intake" question to death, but what I want to know is which one SOUNDS the best. I've always been a bigger fan of intake noise than exhaust sound and would love to find out which ones sound good and why. I just prefer to hear the good stuff coming in rather than the waste products leaving. Be as descriptive as possible.
I can say that the HallTech TRIC certainly has a 'sound'
but only at WOT. Just sounds like air swirling and only
lasts until the engine sound overtakes it. I don't hear it
as much because the GHL exhaust engulfs that sound.
I recently put on a Blackwing - I can hear a the intake gasping for air just a bit when I punch it a bit. But the sound is very quickly overwhelmed by the Borlas.
I know what you are talking about though BQuicksilver. I've got a 71 Olds 442 convertible with a 455, a Quadrajet and an open element. When those beer can sized secondaries open up, that moan is music to my ears!
No fuel injected car I've been in can come close to that sound. Only Quadrajets have it.
I have Vararam VR-1B HP+ Cold Air Intake Kit installed on my 2003 Z06 and every time I touch the gas pedal, I hear a good intake whistle sound especially when the car is not moving and I rev around 2500 - 3500 rpm. Then, gradually exhaust rumble takes over.
Quicksilver I have one of the new Halltech Traps and it has a sound like the good old muscle cars of past - this things sucks air like a Holley double pumper, if you know what that sounds like. It is SWEET! :hurray:
Blackwing on my stock 2001 MN6 made the EXHAUST louder and lower. It isn't just me, many others have posted the same results.
I to would like the 4 barrel intake sound or close. But so far nothing duplicates it, or even comes close, that has ever been posted by many users on this board.
I think my Blackwing is quiet. The car is stock beside the intake. There is whistling sound and maybe a slight sucking sound, but the engine really takes over any intake sound over 2500 rpms :auto:
I just installed a vortex on my 99 C5. My wife thinks its sounds like a vacum cleaner. I think its sounds more like a jet engine winding up... Its defintly different.. :flag
Ive always wondered why the little import racers make such a loud intake noise. if youve ever rode in one that has an intake kit on it, you know what im talking about. its very loud, maybe even louder than the exhaust. what causes that? especially the vtech models. as soon and the cam timing changes the intake begins to howl! I think its pretty cool sounding. For an import that is :D
