Hey Godspeed read this and please advise in the best way possible. Thanks. Hey guys I tried to install the REV 7716 double spring last night and got caught in a snag. The seats that I received for LG were to small to fit around the valve stem oil seal and seat properly against the head. Has anybody out there done a valve spring job themselves and used these springs. Without the seat the springs went on without a problem just wondering if I need the seats or not? Any help out there would be greatly appreciated.
the spring seats are part of the equation for proper spring pressure....in addition, the spring seats are mandatory to prevent the springs from "eating up" the aluminum head!
Good point I understand that the seats have something to do with the equation. Although I have installed other springs such as the LS6 spring on other peoples car and know that the seats came with that kit and found out that other people had not used the seats so I didn't use them because they didn't fit either. Till this day none of those springs have had any problems and the cars run great with the springs and the "Hot Cam" installed. I just want to know if I am running into the same problem or I just got the wrong seats. To work the diameter of the hole has to be 1/8 of an inch bigger to work.
Also when I pressed down on the 918's I could get the valve to open a little with the new springs put on with no seats I couldn't get it to move. But I just don't know what would happen when the motor is started.

Re: Paging Godspeed (ixlr8)
Hi, The valve seals must be removed to install the spring seats, then reinstall the seals. You can not use seals that have an integral spring seat, you must use the GM seal that does not have a bottom seat built in.
The bottom seats that you got with your set also serves to locate the inner spring, and keep it away from the seal, so it won't damage either the spring or the seal.
You must use the hardened spring seats with the REV springs. If you do not, you will not only have less seat pressure, but you will wear out the alumimum seat in the head.
Give me a call on Tuesday, or IM me today if you have any other questions.
Ok I got all of the valve springs on. Everything looks good put everything back together and then start the car. The car starts right up and then about five minutes later sounds like a rocker arm is loose, go to drive the car and feels like one cylinder is dead like the valve is not opening and closing properly. I haven't taken the valve cover off until tonight. My question is with these springs what should I torque the rocker arm bolts down to? I thought it was 25ft/lbs but should it be more?
Well I took the valve covers off both sides and found that the intake rocker arms had all been shot needle bearings all over the head. On the LS6 the valve stem oil seal is one solid piece and I put the seat on like I was told. I guess there was just too much pressure on the spring for it to do anything. I am not sure at this point what caused the problem. Need to get more info.
