needs an alignment?
here are the problems:
1) the steering wheel is no longer dead center straight. to drive straight, the wheel needs to be turned about two, or three degrees to the right.
2) at about 68-72 mph, my steering wheels develops a slight shimmy...about 1/2 inch travel in a rapid-back-and-forth motion...the same motion as when you make sure the wheel locks when you park.
do i need a front-end alignment?
are the wheels unbalanced?
i live in the nyc area and the roads suck-butt.
any advice would be appreciated.
thanks!
The steering wheel being off center, can resolved 2 ways. Pull the steering wheel and center it to the wheels, or adjust the alignment so the wheels are in line with the steering.
I have never heard of alignment causing a "shimmy" at a fixed speed. That symptom has always been related to balancing.
If you have both checked/re-done, do the balancing first, then the alignment.
Good luck.
