The hardest part of the procedure is getting the retainer pin out. It's a kind of T-shaped key that prevents the shift **** from turning loose. Be sure not to damage the pin, since it is only made of very mild steel!

Sabby, I've always had good luck using the 2 big blade screwdriver method. Hold a screwdriver on each side of the retainer pin, and fulcrum it out (like those corkscrews). This is a little hard to explain, but the back of the pin (i.e., facing the rear of the car) has a little shoulder on it (you'll see what I mean after the fact), so when you place the screwdrivers in position, place the rear edge of the screwdriver just forward of the rear edge of the pin, to clear this shoulder. This will maximize the amount of surface area you have to pop the pin out. Good luck.
From what I've gathered, some are tight and some are DAMN tight. I got mine out using the vice grip method - Where you clamp vice grips on the "Demon" key and pry on the vice grips with a screwdriver (being careful not to damage the leather **** by using a rag for protection).
There are some unbelievable stories out there about the tenacity of that pin - Good luck!
