Default Reprogram for Stall and Gear

I have a 3.15 gear auto. I am getting ready to install 3.42 and Yank 3500 SY stall. I realize that I need custom programming for the new gear but what changes is needed for the stall change, if any at all?

Thank you!!!

Here's a TTT for ya. I'm interested, also. I did the tranny, SY3000 & 342s a couple of months ago. I get the P1870 code about once a week now. Several times a week in the beginning. I used LS1Edit to change to TC lockup to a higher speed & that helped. I want to know what others have done short of deleting the code the from the list.

Why did't you have Steve Cole do that when you sent him your PCM??

Al

Actually, I am just about to send back my pl to Steve and wasn't sure if he was going to have to program for the stall as well as for the gears.

I take it he knows what to do...

You shouldn't have to do anything specifically for the conveter although you may want to. You might find you want to lock up a little earlier at low TPS, or hold gear or longer, or.... it all depends on you taste.

I found that more than anything else, the way I wanted to have my shift points set varied between stock and higher stall converter. With the stock setup, I liked to hold gear a little longer (rev a little higher) so I raised the lower an intermediate TPS shift points a bit. That was just what I didn't want to do with the higher stall converter. For just driving around town I want to get on through the gears and hit lock up so I lowered my shift points a bit. I using the terms 'raise' and 'lower' relative to the shape of the stock shift point curves.

One other thought is that LS1-Edit gear scaling scales a lot of things on your behalf. I didn't particularly care for the scaling it did wrt the TCC lockup speeds. Assuming you don't have complicating factors like huge lumpy cams, some of the TCC functions really need to operate at road speed, kind of independent of gearing. E.g., I may want lockup in 4th at 35 MPH regardless of whether I'm going 35 MPH on 3.15 gears or 3.73 gears. Depending on how fussy you are about such things you may want to go back and touch up your tuning. This is more a function of the gear change than the converter swap though.

Enjoy the new setup.

I had the 3.42 gear and pro torque 2900 stall installed in mine 4 years ago. I had TTS power loader send me a programmer. I called told them all my mods and like magic my transmission codes went away and I haven't seen them since!

I did the 3.15, Yank 3000 converter and FLP Level 4 tranny and was throwing the P1870 code all the time. Now, for whatever reason, I don't get the code anymore around town. It will still throw it on the highway every once in awhile and but not nearly as much. The only thing I've done is re-adjust the TCC switch behind the brake pedal as I was having TCC lockup problems as well. The TCC locks up fine now...just like it should. All that is left is the occasional code at highway speeds. Still seriously contemplating the LS-1 edit. All I've got for programming is the Hypertech, which doesn't allow for any TCC parameter changes.

MikeyD, what speed does your TCC lock up at in 4th gear? Looks like we're the only ones with the Yank 3000 that have problems. Still waiting on my laptop to come back from repair so I can AutoTap some more. I have found that if I accel moderatily on through my TCC lockup speed of 50mph (4th gear) that I can feel the TCC lockup better. I have not had the code set when I know the TCC locked up. If I very slowly approach the 50mph lockup speed, that is when I set the code more frequently. If I can catch this on AutoTap, I think it will show the TCC did not lockup. If that is the case, then I need to understand exactly how the TCC locks up. By line pressure or what?

Sounds like the same situation Newberd. Mine will lock up if I'm over 50 mph like 52 or more. It doesn't seem to set the code on the low end..just when I'm around 75 to 80 mph. Again, cruising in town doesn't set the code. But then again, in town I rarely will see over 50 mph so the TCC doesn't get many chances to lock up. When mine sets the code, its only after the TCC has locked up. I can tell when the codes sets because you can feel the TCC disengage. Locks right back up after clearing the code.

Yes. You will need to adjust the shift points, VSS and OSS, and WOT vs throttle position. WOT vs throttle position is an important one, because with the high stall TC more throttle will need to be given to engauge the converter. No point in going into PE mode when the converter is not fully engauged.
