Default Granted....one wish for hoursepower

Assume you are installing headers and an LS6 intake on a stock 2001 C5 M6. In addition, you only have enough "race car $" for one of the following; 1) Porting your heads and installing LS6 valves, or 2) installing a new cam. Which one do you choose and why? :auto:

Don't waste the money on headers. Go with gears...4.10 to be exact.
They are easy, cost as much as headers, give at least 3 times the SOTP

Leave the heads alone and do a good cam like TR or LG...

Since it is an essay question:
I would and did only consider both. Heads and cams complement each other and there is quite a bit of common labor. If you choose the parts wisely (mabe slightly used or freshened) you can and should do them together. One tune as well.
Easy for me to spend your money.

2001's already have the zo6 intake. I would do a gear and a cam. If you want bang for the buck.

Chuckster is right. Go with the 4.10's and the hottest cam you can stand to drive and that will be your best option.
By the way, LS6 valves are the same size as LS1. 2002 and up Z06 valves are lighter is all. Since you will be changing springs with the cam, that is no matter to you.
You can add headers later on, same with heads.

I would do gears first (4.10s), I would then do cam and headers together. Because you will not get the full potenial of the cam without headers. If I had the extra cash I would also do heads along with my headers and cam.

Cam and heads go together. Your heads may/will require different spring rates, pushrod lengths, valve sizes, etc., to go with whatever size cam you choose. For labor costs sake alone, do them together. I would do heads and cam before I did intake, exhausts, you can always do that later on when the time($) is right. Just remember you won't feel the full benefit of the h/c til you have done it all. You have a 3:42 gear, which is fine for your needs right now. Get the engine right where you want it, and then the drivetrain to follow.

You may soon need to join 'Modaholics Anonimous'. There are lots of us who are members, and we will fully support you and what you are experiencing right now. It never ends, and when you do a mod, and then get use to it and crave for more, you will realize that you should of gone bigger to begin with. This is just a friendly warning to save yourself some $$ and grief, because it just doesn't stop. Wait! I think I heard the mailman! Could that be some more high performance parts catalogs for my Vette?! Let me check the limit on my credit card.....   :jester

Just have fun with it!!!!!!!!!! :D

Do the gears first. It's a "virtual" 75hp increase :yesnod:

Then later on do the H/C.

I don't know about the 75hp, but going from 3:42 to 3:90, your looking at a 3/10th's gain in your 1/4 mile. You should put the muscle behind that gear first!!!!
