Has anyone seen a illustrated guide to doing a C5 clutch swap? I know its a big project but I want to do it and would like to see what is involved. Thanks
The July issue of "Corvette Magazine" has a good article on a clutch swap complete with several pictures. In the article they don't mention anything about the flywheel weights. I think these weights have something to do with engine balance and if you replace the flywheel or take it off, these weights have to be in the same location relative to the crankshaft when its put back on. Make sure you find out what the story is before you pull things apart or you might have a balance problem which is very hard to fix.
Just discussed the balance issue in an earlier thread - even though the manuals indicate the factory balance weight should be left on the flywheel, more recent GM bulletins indicate that is not necessary. Balance the assembly and bolt it on. The LS1 is internally balanced. Sorry I don't have a link to the thread - seach isn't working for me this morning...
