A few weeks ago (mid-May) I was driving my '99 FRC and suddenly the cruise control (set to 60 MPH) was disengaged. The DIC read "Cruise Control Disengaged". I tried to reset the CC, but nothing happened until about 15-20 minutes later when I set it again. It worked for a while, but then disengaged on its own again and I did not hit the brake. When I moved the switch to Resume again, nothing happened. I turned the CC off and then back on and hit Set...nothing happened. The next week it worked fine on a long trip. A week ago it self disengaged again and I could not set the CC until 15-20 minutes passed again. I set the CC in 6th gear each time. Has anyone experienced this?
Same thing happens on my '99 FRC also, but I have kinda connected it to a bump in the road.
I will notice it cuts out right after hitting a bump. I think the sensor on either the brake pedal or the clutch pedal is set to sensitive and needs to be adjusted. It gets jarred by the bump and won't reset because it thinks I still have my foot on the pedal. Just my opinion.
Same thing here. Turned out to be aa electrical connector on the undercarriage was loose. Squeezed it back in place and has been perfect ever since (2 yrs)
Another place to check is your brake pedal connection to the CC. I had this problem with my 2000 and it turned out to be that the brake pedal was sticking ever-so-slightly and dis-engaging the CC.

Re: cruise control cuts out (torch red ryder)
Another problem area that can cause this is the turn signal stalk/cruise control unit itself. It's standard issue GM (something quite clear during the years when I was driving both my 99 and my old 93 Suburban). Mine would disengage when I signalled a right hand lane change (not setting the signal lever in the indent, just holding it for a temporary signal). Not every time, of course. Always hooked right back up again when I hit "resume". Go figure.
your not alone, my 99 frc does the exact same thing when i hit a large bump and when i signal a lane change. funny to read your post because i was about to do a search to see what i could find, and post this exact question if i couldn't find anything. you beat me to it. :)
Had this same thing happen on my sister-in-laws car. When she signaled to change lanes the cruise disengaged. Come to find out it was a burnt out tail lamp. Changed the bulb and it works fine now.
Thank you all for your response to my question. I will take a print out of this thread to my Chevrolet Dealer next week. Hopefully it will help to repair the problem.
I had the same problem when I bought my '99 six months ago. It would cut out when I hit a bump. To fix it I had to take off the under side of the dash, and get to two small white actuators that contact the brake pedel. This is a back breaking maneuver to reach! The actuators have a small collar that hold them in place. Push the actuator back into the collar from both sides. Both of mine were off only 1/16", but this was enough to make it stop working. I have not had it do it even once since then. Sorry but brainfreeze stopped me from thinking of another word for "actuator". :D

Good to hear I'm not the only one with this issue.
I took the car to the Chevy dealer today. Switch to clutch was partially disconnected, so CC worked intermittently. Technician re-connected it and reprogrammed the engine control module. Lucky I have the extended warranty. It seems fine now. Thanks again for all of your input.
