Anyone replace a headlamp door motor?
my left door is acting up.. I think the micro switch in the motor is bad or the gear is bad... there is no repair kit for this... the motor is 350 dollars.... thats one motor.. repair time is .8 I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and If they did the fix themself.. and if there was any problems? door wont go up but motor runs..

Hello there, that price is way too high, I bought mine from http://www.GMpartsdirect.com for about $135 shipped, brand new.
also change it yourself, its not hard at all, just some patience, and alot of cussing, but well worth it, I had changed mine about an hr

It is called an headlight actuator I believe.
I would contact Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet. They are usually just as cheap as GMDirect.
If the door is stuck down, i.e. you cannot manually raise it then you have a larger problem. It has jammed.
Older C5's the gear housing for the motor has bolts (3) that someone with a small hand and a slim ratchet can get them off and you may be able to un jam the door and then be able to take the assembly apart at the hinges. If you cannot do this then you will need to remove the nose of the car in order to get at the bolts that mount the headlight assembly to the body of the car. New C5's the housing is sealed and cannot do the above.
Be carefull with the door cover it is has tabs used to attach it to the light frame and these tabs break easily.
I speak from experience on this and luckily I have a very petite wife with small hands.

OK .. door motor is fixed.. took all of thirty minutes to replace the motor,, 160 dollars for a new motor.. list price 235... four 10 mm bolts. three water pak connectors..bada bing bada boom...
